I've stayed at Hotel Corque in Solvang twice now since the change from the Royal Scandinavian Inn (stayed there too)
This hotel is a major upgrade from the previous incarnation. The lobby is now much fresher and has nice designer touches. Rooms have dark wood floors, and a received a dwell-like modern re-hab. I found the rooms and bed very clean, fresh, comfortable and very pleasant. Bathrooms are large and have two sinks. Overall, it's probably one of the best places to stay in Solvang, because the cheesy run down Scandinavian kitsch is missing here. I make this my place to stay in the area if I'm visiting Los Olivos area and need a place to sleep - and if I'm not staying in Ballard or Los Olivos area.
The hotel is next to and affiliated with Root 246, a Bradley Ogden restaurant. The space is very nice without outside areas, 2 bars/lounges and a dining room. The restaurant is expensive and wants to be super high end fine dining - many adjectives on the menu, and overly complicated dishes, but it someone falls short. It has fabulous food aspirations but really just feels like a commercial attempt at great food. It's OK, but expensive and isn't really much different from anything you'd eat if you spend a lot of money anywhere.
Unique Quality: Bathrooms have two sinks which is very nice, if two people want to get ready or brush their teeth and what not at the same time. I thought that was a nice touch. Showers are big and are enclosed in all glass. Water pressure is pretty good.
Breakfast which is included is upstairs and while free and fairly nice, is barely a step up from what you'd expect at a Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express. The business center was snappy and efficient, but nothing special.
Hotel is owned by the Chumash Indians and as such is affiliated with the casino in Santa Ynez. This is not really a positive in my view and hate the notion that there's a casino in wine county, but the plus side is that you can book massages at the casino through the hotel and the spa is pretty nice - you do however need to go the casino for that which is a bit of a drag and there are other spas in Los Olivos and surrounding areas.
Directions: At the outer edge of Solvang on Alisal, which is nice if you are wanting to mostly visit Santa Ynez, Los Olivos etc.
In SOLVANG, we stayed at the quaint and centrally located Danish-style ROYAL SCANDINAVIAN INN right in the village square. The rooms here are HUGE! And the heated pool (yes, even in summer) faces the lovely Santa Ynez Valley. I could only gasp in amazement at the scenic beauty of this whole place. Spellbinding.
