A Great Place to Stay!
by TripAdvisor Member TnDHoward
Our room was very large, comfortably decorated and CLEAN. Staff was helpful and accomodating. While our room was on the street side (Hwy 246) of the building, any traffic noise was imperceptable because of the design layout of the room..no balcony only a window. The ideal room would be on the third floor facing the west. These rooms have views looking toward Buellton and Vandenburg Air Force Base. We actually saw the contrail of a rocket launch!
Breafkast was more than just continental! It included cheese omlets and bacon as well as bagels, toast, cereal, juice, coffee and fruit. And all you could eat!
When we go back to Solvang, we will definitely make reservations to stay at this Holiday Express Inn again! A great place to stay for the money!
Great Value

We stayed here a night over the 4th for $92. Our room was on the third floor facing away from the street. The room was spacious, clean and quiet. The air conditioning worked very well, which is usually important to me. The breakfast was pretty good, included different cereals, eggs, bacon and muffins. I thought it was a great deal for a holiday weekend and will plan to stay here again.
Absolutely no problems

Spent one night at this hotel on a four day Highway 1 trip. Room was enormous with a high ceiling and a separate dressing area. Good a/c. We slept so well, we missed breakfast, so that says something! Solvang is a really cute little town and well worth a visit. Would stay here again.
Great Value!

This is a value that cannot be beat! We stayed at the Svendsgaard for one night as part of a road trip up the coast. The location was excellent (particularly if you went to Los Olivos for wine tasting), the room was huge, and the price was just right. We were allowed to check in early, which was also a plus.
Below average

My mother and I stayed here while traveling down the coast of California in July 2006. We loved Solvang - but not the hotel. The hotel was below average - it was just okay. The building was old and the room and the air seemed stale. It was clean enough - but the carpet, the towels and the bedding seemed old and well used. The front desk staff were friendly - and somewhat helpful but we ran into a huge problem trying to use my mother's points for the room. The room had been booked through Holiday Inn a month before and the points were all transferred and it was supposed to be easy and all set when we checked in - but it was not. It took hours of time and persistent phone calls in the evening and in the morning to front desk and to Holiday Inn to get the points straightened out. We were treated like second class citizens for even trying to use points and it was exhausting. Why have a point system to encourage loyalty when you then get treated like second class citizens? We would not stay at a Holiday Inn again.
Nice place, good location
by TripAdvisor Member LvVegas
We stayed at this hotel this past weekend, one night, room type that we booked via travelocity was not available, they told me that it was travelocity's fault, since they were not expecific to what we had booked. Other than that this is a very nice hotel, in a good location, good parking, the room was very clean, with all the necesities. We had a room with 2 queen beds, 2nd floor main building. The young man at check in was very polite and professional. Excellent customer service. They offer breakfast, a basic breakfast with coffee, juices, freshly made cinnamon rolls, instant oatmeal, among other things, we only had time to grab 2 coffees and they were very good.
In the room they provide a coffemaker, coffee, cream and sugar. The toiletries provided are also very nice. Overall we had a very good stay, and we will stay there again, but I might book directly instead of travelocity. Recommended!
Good Solvang choice
by TripAdvisor Member JRCaesar
We've stayed in many of the hotels & motels in Solvang over the past 20 years, and this one (the former Danish Inn, I think?) is one of the better ones. The rooms already were plenty roomy, but the changeover to Holiday Inn Express has resulted in upgraded bathrooms and beds. The hotel is the first one (or the last one!) on the edge of town, but the walk is neither far nor cumbersome. We found better rates on the Holiday Inn Web site, plus our AAA discount.
Svendsgaard's Danish Lodge is Super

We stayed at Svendsgaard's Danish Lodge in Solvang for one night and wished we had more time to stay and visit Solvang. The town is adorable, the hotel is cute and the hotel staff is very accommodating. From the moment we first contacted the hotel to arrange our stay, we found the people running Svendsgaard's to be kind, friendyl, and ready to answer our questions about the hotel and the town. When they heard we were travelling with our two teenagers, they put us in a large room with two queen beds and a sitting area. The beds were very comfortable, the room and adjoining bathroom were very clean, and the pool and hot tub were great. We had a great room for a great price and the hotel is convenient to attractions in the town. We would definitely stay there again.
Close to Solvang and all of Wine Country
by TripAdvisor Member Orion_240
I was in wine country on a weekday and knew that this motel had a pool that got good afternoon sun. They had several rooms available. I had a spacious room on the second floor overlooking a side street. The room needs updating and like several other hotels in the area has old fashioned switches, TVs, showers.
But the rate was only about $70 w/ Auto Club card.
It is right on Mission Drive, or the 246, which runs from Santa Ynez west through Buellton, the Santa Rita Hills and Lompoc. The Chumash Casino is just a few miles east and the Hitching Post is a few miles west.
Wine Country is in almost all directions! there are several wine tasting rooms within an easy walk of the Lodge and lots of wineries (and Los Olivos) are within 10 - 15 minutes away.
The pool area is great with a deep cool pool and a spa. Both get plenty of afternoon sun, so hang out there after the tasting rooms close at 5 pm.
An added bonus was that there were plenty of parking spaces right next to where I came down the stairs. During hours when the main road is slow with lots of tourists there are side streets that will allow you to bypass all the lookie-loos.
quiet, clean, friendly and consistent!

i love this place! first found it 18 years ago when my son was born and we were looking for a quite, baby-friendly place to stay. my son has since grown but i continue to stay here, once a year usually in the fall, when there is a chill in the air and the store windows are decorated for the holidays.
svendsgaard offers hot coffee and danish (of course) and a big basket of apples (my personal favorite). the rooms are spacious and clean with fireplaces (good for ambiance versus warmth) and nice views, comfy beds and clean bathrooms. there is a nice pool and a wonderful jacuzzi. if you request it and you're lucky enough to get it, there is a room right next to the jacuzzi but i usually prefer to stay upstairs.
this place doesn't have a lot of glitter but for that matter, neither does solvang which for the most part, closes down after sunset. but i can rely on svendsgaard to give me exactly the kind of weekend getaway i so desperately need by that time of year. and since i go alone, safely is of utmost importance. and i have never felt anything but completely safe there.
i personally like the location too. it's a bit off the main path which makes it quieter. and besides, you need to do some walking to burn off the danish!
