Accommodations on the Square
This historic hotel right on the lovely town square was a great base for our recent couple days in Sonoma. It has 16 rooms on the second and third floors. Our room was “cozy” (read: small) and the amenities, while good enough for most non-demanding travelers, were definitely not spectacular. But who goes to Sonoma to watch so much TV that they need a flat screen? In our room, we had a comfortable full-size bed, a small TV, a phone and a sink; the bathroom was little (but functional, so no complaints) and its tub (with shower) was perfect for hot (no probs with water temp here!) baths. The first floor reception area is where you’ll get a self-served breakfast in the morning or bagels and/or pastries, as well as coffee, tea and orange juice. Later in the day in this room, you’ll hear buzz from the hotel’s neighboring restaurant, The Girl and the Fig, which I haven’t tried but about which I’ve heard good things. To sum up, our humble but comfortable room in this charming hotel was great for us. My only complaint, as happens often with these old charmer types, was the thin walls – we were woken up at 3am one night by the sounds of someone trying to coax back to bed their sleepwalking wife, and later in the morning were stirred by the breakfast hubbub below.
