Old Downtown Hotel
The old Sonora Inn, now the Days Inn Sonora, is a neat old historic hotel in the heart of downtown at the interestion of Hwy 49 and Hwy 108, the two main thoroughfares: Washington Street and Stockton Street.
This is a 3-storey stucco building and one of the largest buildings downtown.
Unique Quality: Originally built in about 1896 as a wooden Victorian building, it was apparently remodelled, presumably sometime around 1920-1930, into a stucco mission-revival building both inside and out, but keeping its overall layout. It has undergone little renovation since but is still in very good shape for its age despite that and has a lot of charm and character. It has a marble floor in the lobby, nice coffered ceiling, and the rooms still have all the original old doors, 1920's-1930's bathroom tile, fixtures, bottle openers, etc. The floors creak and overall it's a charming place.
It also still has its old elevator/lift with old brass fixtures and brass cage-accordion door.
There is a newer motel-type part across the street in back, but haven't stayed there. I like the old charm of the main building. The result is that this is a much more enjoyable and meaningful experience than the usual hotel/motel stay.
The old hotel also has a swimming pool on the second floor.
It is also convenient since it is in the heart of downtown.
The people also are friendly.

Sonora' Best Hotel
With its Spanish colonial architecture, the Days Inn is not just a typical motel. It fits into its historic surroundings. It's also popular with film crews, who have shot many movies in nearby Railtown USA. And it's within my budget; rooms are generally less than $100 a night.
Unique Quality: The Days Inn occupies prime real estate, within easy walking distance of all the attractions in downtown Sonora. It also has a nice courtyard, with small tables shaded by umbrellas. The rooms are rather small, but comfortable. You have to pass through the lobby to get to them--enhancing security.
Directions: On Sonora's main street, at the southern end of downtown.
