Honeymooning in Tahoe

by vjl330

We will be there Oct17-25.From Wednesday through Sunday we're planning to get a cabin on the west or north shore then spend time in SLT.Any suggestions for a unique but reasonable lodge for newlyweds?
Also will be able to do some hikes that late in the season?

Perhaps you should try www.gotahoenorth.com/lodging for a place to stay. There are all kinds of places in all kinds of price ranges so try that website or maybe a major realty like Coldwell Banker Incline Village or Tanager Realty which handle rentals. The Tahoe area has recorded snow in every month of the year. I would bet that during your stay you will most likely be able to hike but you never know! See my answer to the previous post about some good hikes. Any more questions? Congratulations on your marriage!

Travel Tips for South Lake Tahoe

Heavenly to Squaw, Skiing at the Lake is Great!

by Kiisu

From about Thanksgiving to Easter, snow skiing is big business here around Lake Tahoe. My personal favorites for downhill skiing are Kirkwood (take Hwy 89 to 88 south of the Tahoe Basin), Heavenly Valley in South Lake Tahoe (great views of the lake) or Northstar-at-Tahoe on the north shore. Squaw Valley is famous, and that's west of Tahoe City. For cross-country skiing there are many places, including my favorite area, Hope Valley. It's south on Hwy 89 - just park well-off the road and go for it!

Not Far From The Maddening Crowd

by lmkluque

There are plenty of places to explore around Lake Tahoe. What ever your interests are you will find it here. Unlike most tourist destinations, this one offers solitude in many forms as well as the high energy activities many tourists seek.

Here I've found an isolated beach. Even the water craft seem abandoned.

Pizza anytime of day and in to the evening

by jessicadf about Bob Dog's Pizza

Aside from a reallllllllly ditzy waitress, I liked Bob Dog's Pizza. Just at the bottom of Echo Summit, Bob Dog's is open from 7am to 9pm daily. Their pizza is pretty good, and it's one of the few restaurants open in the area. Pizza, of course.

Pony Express Monument

by Yaqui

This was commissioned by William Harrah to be placed in front of his casino in Tahoe. Sculpted by Avard Fairbanks and he has sculpted many other beautiful pieces of work all over the country. I hope they never move this beautiful statue.

The plaque reads:
In Commemroation of The Pony Express a fleeting and exciting epoch in the Winning of the West erected April 4th, 1963 by Harrah's William F. Harrah, President. The first Pony Express Rider passed here April 4th, 1860 on his way to Friday's Station are mount point 4/10th of a mile northwest at Edgewood, Nevada.

The Poney Express Seal:
National Pony Express Centennial Association 1860-61 Trail Marker 1860-61. Founders Operators Owners Pony Express Russell- Majors- Waddell

M.S. Dixie II

by Nexus7

The M.S. Dixie II is a steam ship replica that carries you around the lake for four hours. It serves you a nice meal and basically informs you of the sites of the Lake, including a fantastic view of Emerald Bay. Not bad for $60.
