WHERE IS THE TRAIL?
When arriving at the Reno/Tahoe Airport, I saw a picture of two bicyclists on a bike trail just above Emerald Bay. I would like to ride on that trail. Where do I find that trail head? Thanks!
Re: WHERE IS THE TRAIL?
Not knowing the exact photo that you are talking about, I will say it is either of two things:
Tahoe Rim Trail
one of the trails in Desolation Wilderness Park
I have a bit of information on the first on my Incline Village and pages of the area.
Travel Tips for South Lake Tahoe

Go to the casinos. Harveys is my favorite but you can also check out ceasars palace, Bills casino, and the Horizon. They're all on hwy 50 right next to the most beautiful lake in America. Snowboarding at Heavenly is truley that...'Heavenly'. The largest resort in the tahoe area is split by the California-Nevada boarder so you can start your run in California and end up in Nevada. The views are spectacular and you can even hike around in the summer.
Just Drive.. Nevada Beach
You just have to drive a few miles in any direction to see a incredible sight.
Nevada Beach is a pebble beach with great views. We stayed here a bit longer that expected just to take in the sights.
This beach is located a few miles east of S. Lake Tahoe on HW50.
Local Hangouts for Great Food
For a great breakfast, try the Red Hut or Ernie's - these are 2 local hangouts that serve great basic breakfasts. Or for a great breakfast with a bit more atmosphere, drive a little ways to Chris' Cafe in Meyers, or Zephyr Cove Lodge in Zephyr Cove. All four places have friendly, down-to-earth waitresses, and all have very reasonable prices. Looking for a good burger? Then Izzy's Burger Spa is the place to go for yummy burgers and fries. Chris' Cafe - huevos rancheros
Izzy's - jalepeno cheese fries - yum!
Red Hut - pancakes
Lake Tahoe all the way around
When you get tired of the casinos and the crowds you might consider getting in your car and driving completely around the lake. Why not bring a bottle of Napa Valley wine, some cheese and munchies--make a picnic of it. I would suggest going in a clock wise direction so that if you want to turn off and drive closer to the water, it will be an easy turn. Also, getting back on the highway is easier. The state line of California and Nevada goes right across the lake, so you will find casinos at two different places on the lake. The north shore has smaller and fewer casinos, but the is one called Cal Neva which was owned by Frank Sinatra at one time. The gaming commission of Nevada forced him to sell his interest because he had ties to the mafia.
The California side is way more developed with tourist traps, eateries and boat rental places. Expect to spend at least 3 hours with a stop for picnic time.
This drive is also beautiful at night. Just watch out for deer and lately bears. They are frequently hit by cars. You don't want to deal with that on your vacation. See the shot below for a sunset photo on the west side of the lake.
This is quite possibly one of the most gorgeous sites in California. This bay is so clear and so unique looking. This bay was made from a retreating glacier. It almost was a separate lake due to geological circumstances, but instead it just a bay. Notice the irredescent color. A small Norweigen house is built on the shore of the bay. It was made by a rich heiress who loved Scandanavian culture and thus made an original mansion after Scandanavian designs and furnished it with priceless imported furtniture from the Nordic countries.
