New Year's Eve

by JulieG333

My boyfriend and I are going to be in Tahoe(Heavenly) for New Year's. Neither of us have been there before. We are looking for something hip/cool to do. Any ideas???

The NYE bash in SLT changes from year to year, particularly depending on the snow forecast. Typically the block off a section of main street with police barricades and the party and countdown moves outside. After that, everyone wonders back into the bars and clubs. I cant recommend any specific bar at the moment because I don't know who is hosting with which themes this year. usually gives some better links to entertainment guides and schedules.

Travel Tips for South Lake Tahoe

Packing List

by cwest03

if it's summer bring your shorts and some sun screen. It can get very hot and the sun will burn quickly if you're not careful. It may cool down at night so a light jacket or sweatshirt is recommended.

In the winter be sure to bring somthing to keep you warm esp. at night. It snows here as most are aware and if you want to be out in the snow you'll need to keep warm. Gloves, a hat and proper shoes are also recommended if you're going to spend some quality time in the snow. Most everything can be purchased from the local grocery stores. They have all of the big ones like Safeway, albertsons, RiteAid, etc... so if you forget something chances are you can find a replacement.

Take a Little Drive

by cwest03

If you get the urge to escape the crowds of South Lake Tahoe and see a bit of the surrounding areas you have lots of options especially if you have a car. One of my favorite things to do when in Tahoe is to take a drive around the lake. It's a beautiful drive and there are plenty of places to stop along the way. You'll pass through beautiful forests, drive along the lake, pass the historic Ponderosa Ranch and drive through North Shore and State Line which was the playground to the likes of Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe and the Kennedys among others. Along the way there are plenty of places to stop to put your feet in the lake, get a bite to eat or try your luck at some slots, roulette or craps.

If you want to wonder from the lake you're just about 30 minutes from the State Capital of Carson City and about an hour from Las Vegas' little brother, Reno.

There are also a ton of little lakes, picnic areas, and hiking trails to be found in the mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe. I don't see how anyone can get bored in this place.

Best burgers and fries in town

by tahoesasha about Burger Lounge

This place has a casual burger joint atmosphere with outdoor seating in good weather and many exotic freshly grilled burgers! They also have veggie, chicken and turkey selections and pesto, garlic, cajun and chili fries in most generous portions! Pitchers of microbrew, fresh tomato soup. Friendly, clean and smells really good when you walk inside! The Black & Blue - cajun seasoned burger with blue cheese, grilled onions and fixings.

Visit Vikingsholm and view Emerald Bay

by RSLynn

Everytime anyone visits, except in Winter, we invite them to take the 1-mile hike to this former summer residence built in the 1920s by a wealthy family on the shore of Emerald Bay. We tour the residence and picnic on the grounds

Go for a swim

by painterdave

There are many places around the lake to go swimming or picnic or just sit and take it all in. The scenery is so nice and peaceful. The lake is so big that you never feel the crush of other tourists. The water is crystal clear, yet cool. Once you are in, you will get used to it.
So why not go for a dip?
