Transportation from Reno to Lake Tahoe

by Vardui

I'm flying into Reno and would like to go to Lake Tahoe for skiing. Any suggestions as far as how to get to Lake Tahoe from Reno? We don't want to rent a car so is there a shuttle or any other form of transporation available?

Way back when we were able to catch a bus between South Lake Tahoe and Reno. More than that I don't remember as my Dad took care of the situation (I was 10)

The only way that I know to get to South Lake Tahoe on public transit (without getting a taxi or chartering a private shuttle) would be to take a bus to Carson, then another up to SLT.

RTC Washoe provides bus services to Carson City from Reno.

Look under "intercity"
The buses even have free WiFi!!

From there, you can take South Tahoe Area Ground Express (STAGE) up highway US-50. phone number is (530) 573-2080.

Alternatively, you can charter a ride up to Incline Village, then take the TART bus to South Lake. But this would be more time consuming and more expensive.

Travel Tips for South Lake Tahoe

What's it like to live here?

by lmkluque

Lake Tahoe is a popular summer and winter resort. It is nestled in an out-of-the-way part of California and that may be one of it's biggest draws.

It seems that many of the residents are an off-shoot breed of the mountain folk found in the USA in the early years of it's development.

No, not the "hillbilly" type. Those people who love nature and the great outdoors way of living. Those who can withstand the harsh elements of winter in the mountains. Those are content to live in a small community and who enjoy the long lonely winter nights.

Of course, the many tourists, skiers, hikers and gamblers who venture up the hill make the place a little more crowded and lively during the seasons. However, there is a time, between summers and winters that the place is quiet, relaxing and homey, in a mountain-man kind of way. One of my favorite moments was sitting on the back deck of the cabin and because of so many trees the near by homes could not be seen. The only thing heard was one blue jay calling to another and the scampering of a squirrel up one of the big redwood in the yard.

Sledding! We found a snow park on the way back to Reno that was a great sledding place. Unfortunately, where we live, we get about one snow day a year and even then not, it's not enough to go sledding usually. So we bought a cheap sled from Bartell's and went up to this place between Reno and Tahoe. I was going with the kids for about an hour until I was exhausted. They kept going for two more hours! ha ha. They absolutely loved it. It was the highlight of the day for them.

Dont miss the 'Boat for Two'!

by bpwarne about Sato Japanese Restaurant

Excellent Sushi and Japanese dishes. Great staff. The Boat for Two. Contains: Tempura, Miso soup, Terriyaki chicken, rice and more. A huge amount of food! Be sure to clip the coupon in the local papers for the special price on this one. It has been there for years and they seem to always run this special ad.

Hit the Trails !

by sakuyaini

Ride the Flume Trail ! It has an awesome view of Lake Tahoe !! You can rent bikes at the trailhead (Spooner) for about $45 - I think you can rent helmets too ! Then you can ride one way, then take the shuttle back to where you parked your car. Checkout the website for more information (below)

Driving around Lake Tahoe....

by JeanCooke

Driving around Lake Tahoe. Stop at the many parks and local trails. Hiking in the summer brings surprises and spectacular views with every turn in the trail. Bring plenty of water

GAMBLING-- I prefer the better odds and ambience in Reno. My favorite place to gamble is the PEPPERMILL at 2707 South Virginia Street. 800-648-6992. Sign up for their slot club and earn comps, such as rooms, meals, massages.
