More about Sunset Beach
My daughter and I are coming to Sunset Beach in mid-September for a "girl's week". We are not planning on renting a vehicle, but rather hope to be able to use public transportation. Can anyone tell me if there is bus or train service from Sunset Beach to the regular tourist attractions in LA or San Diego? If not, is there transportation to Long Beach, where we could hook up with something.
Thanks for any help.
Sorry, but you really should reconsider getting a car. In southern California, public transportation is for students, the blind, recent immigrants, and drunks.
You can get around on public transportation if you really have to, but it will be slow and inconvenient.
I think parts of LA, especially Inland, have begun to adopt the train and subway system. But Orange County is still very much car-centric and will be so for the indefinite future.
Metrolink runs a train through OC, and I believe the closest station to Sunset Beach is in Santa Ana, which is still pretty far away (probably close to 30 minutes by bus not including the inevitable wait times, and much more if there's a transfer). From there, you can also catch the Amtrak Coaster into San Diego. San Diego also has a rail system ("trolley") but, in SD, a lot of the sites worth seeing also require a car.
Just rent a car.
