Tahoe City from Reno Airport
by noidea1234
Hi,
does anyone have any idea how to get to Tahoe City from Reno airport using public transportation? Any ideas on costs and how long it will take would be amazingly awesome as well! I cant make head or tail of any information on the internet, and google maps suggested I walk!
Thanks in advance!

There are lots of different options--but try this link for starters: www.northlaketahoeexpress.com/airport-transportation. Also try this link: www.laketahoetransit.com/private-transportation. There are also shuttles from the airport to Tahoe area hotels and ski resorts, and then you could just jump on a TART bus to get to Tahoe City.

If you want to use all public transit, you options may be more limited.
From the airport, you can take RTC bus to downtown. Greyhound and Amtrak service Reno to/from Truckee.

From there, take the TART. Running 7 days a week, from about 6:30am to 6:00pm, TART buses connect the north, west and south shores of Tahoe; from Incline Village to Kings Beach, Tahoma, Tahoe City, Truckee and all points in between.

Alternatively, here are the more budget shuttle buses that service the airport.

Travel Tips for Tahoe City
Sierra Snowfalls Can Be Deep
by AKtravelers
Most people who visit Lake Tahoe in the winter are unaccustomed to the huge snowfalls that can hit the area. Lake Tahoe usually receives a few snowfalls in excess of 2 meters/6 feet every winter. Be prepared for road closures and avalanches that could leave you stranded for a few extra days in your mountain lodgings. Unfortunately, we have not yet had the luxury of calling the boss and saying "We have to extend our vacation because the roads are closed," then head out to the closests ski area. Still, we have experienced some of the deep snowfalls (early in our vacations) and they are wonderous to behold. Enjoy their beauty, but try not to drive in the snow unless you know what you are doing.
Take a hike!!!
by spartan
Walk along the shore of Lake Tahoe or take a boat ride (the view is beautiful). Also, Nevada (Incline Village) is 20 minutes to the east, so if you are into gambling you can go to the Hyatt at Incline Village. The Winter Olymipcs were held at Squaw Valley Resort (about 20 minutes north of Tahoe City), so take a day and go to the top of the mountain.
Moons Over Lake Tahoe
by AKtravelers
It is a local custom at Lake Tahoe for all the men attending a wedding to moon the cameras. Actually, it turns out that this is a custom where ever one of our family members gets married. In fact, the only picture I have of Dayton Ohio consists of about 20 posteriors.
In all seriousness, now that we're thinking of it. if you can catch the moon rising over Lake Tahoe, it is a beautiful sight. It looks very big over the mountains -- even bigger than the moons in this picture!
Incline Village -- a Heavenly Alternative
by AKtravelers
If for some reason you won't or can't make it to Heavenly (snow, traffic, time), the best alternative for skiing with Lake Tahoe views is Incline Village. Located in Nevada on the north side of the Lake, Incline is a smaller, lesseer known area that doesn't attract the outsider crowds like Squaw and Heavenly. One of the reasons for that is the lack of abundant challenging terrain for the expert. But if you're happy with long cruising runs and you want Lake views, Incline is a fine alternative to Heavenly.
Get Married!!
by AKtravelers
Surprisingly, Lake Tahoe has a long history of being a place to run off and get married. Both the California and Nevada sides, at one time or another, had lax laws that made them destinations for those eloping. However, my cousin Rachel and her husband Chris didn't elope. Given that Rachel grew up in Reno meant that she was getting married at home.
