Vanni House: Cozy Old Tahoe Cabin

I rented this cute little cabin last weekend when I went skiing with my daughter. It was just perfect for the two of us, although this house could comfortably have accommodated a family of 4 - 6 or two couples with a child each.

The Vanni House is one of the oldest cabins in Tahoe City. It was built by one of the original Italian families who settled in Tahoe City. Rent this house through Tahoe Luxury Properties. This company is VERY reliable and all their houses are first rate.

Unique Quality: The cabin has a rustic charm with all the modern conveniences. It has a comfortable living room with a plasma TV and a gas fireplace that started up with a switch! I loved it - I am no good at building fires.

The kitchen had wonderful appliances, and the house had a tankless hot water supply. Thank you, pchamlis, for explaining to me how a tankless hot water system worked!
The beds were extremely comfortable with down comforters.

One of the best features was the location. It is only two blocks from the main shopping and restaurant area, so we walked every where. At the same time, the residential neighborhood itself was exceptionally quiet.

All of this for $200/night during ski season, and $175 off season!

Prudential California Realty: Vacation Rentals on the North Shore at Lake Tahoe

Another rental agency we have used and liked very much was Prudential Realty. When the house we planned to rent was suddenly unavailable due to repair work, Prudential Realty upgraded us to a much nicer house for no additional fee. We were VERY impressed with the personal attention and told the owner we would recommend his business to all our friends.

Houses start at $99/night (sleeps 4).

Tahoe Luxury Properties: Vacation Rentals at Tahoe City

If you get a group together and rent a house or condo, you can save a lot of money. We like the extra space and private kitchen and the ability to make a lot of noise without someone knocking on the wall to tell us to pipe down.

One company that we have found to be consistently reliable is Tahoe Luxury Properties. Cottages start at $150/night.

The Mayfield House: B & B by the lake

Built in 1932 by Norman Mayfield (Lake Tahoe's pioneer contractor) the Mayfield House is one of the finest examples of old Tahoe architecture. Completely refurbished in 1979, the Mayfield House is know a fine Bed and Breakfast, boasting six bedrooms, each with down comforters and down pillows, lots of books to enjoy and fresh flowers.

Unique Quality: The hosts are outstanding, very attentive, quaint and charming. Many wonderful things are included (full breakfast, snacks, beer & wine, etc.).
