FALKNER WINERY HIGH ON A HILL

It was party time at the Falkner Winery when the owners Ray and Loretta Falkner celebrated their grand opening in business on July 1, 2000 with a party over the 4th of July. Today, the 4th of July, 2009 and they are celebrating their ninth year as Falkner Winery with a celebration. The wine was flowing, the owners were glowing, and Jason Weber, sax player, was blowing. Wow! Happy Birthday Falkner Winery. Let's see, who else is celebrating a Birthday today. Oh yes, the USA. Double reason to celebrate.

Wine tasting at Falkner is a lot of fun. The wine host or hostess puts a lot of effort into making sure you are not only getting the right nose out of the wine but that you are having a good time in doing so. Falkner wines with names like Luscious Lips or Sweet Loretta have to be explained and to the delight of those imbibing. A dry Riesling white wine was a hit with my party which made purchasing the Riesling easy to say yes to along with good ol' Luscious Lips, a red wine whose time had come to be opened. The reds were well balanced and had a great finish. The Syrah was my favorite.

Having a great winery would be sufficient for most but not here where a first class restaurant was built with a view of the vineyards below. The Pinnacle Restaurant at Falkner Winery is not only beautiful to look at, the service is excellent, and the Mediterranean style food dishes are gourmet. The Pinnacle Restaurant was awarded a "Best Restaurant of 2008" award from the Inland Empire Magazine. The Pinnacle, the finest Temecula wine country restaurant, is open Monday through Thursday from 11:30am to 3:30pm. It is also open Friday through Sunday from 11:30am to 2:30pm. Reservations are advised. The Falkner Winery is located at 40620 Calle Contento Temecula, CA and is open daily from 10 am - 5 pm.

Machado's Store 1892

Built in 1892 by Macedonia Machado, this general merchandise store later became the Temecula station post office with Mr. Machado serving as post master. For a long time it was the "Long Branch Saloon" and is now and antique mall.

If you are looking for looking for wine tasting in Southern California this is the place to be. Temecula consists of 13 wineries, golf courses, shops, and restaurants. It is a great weekend get away. The vineyards are beautiful.
