A new hotel opened up in Truckee and it is unlike anything I have experienced in America. It feels more European with down comforters on the beds from Germany, and soft Egyptian cotton sheets, and Euro-style almost techo designed rooms. That, mind you, combined with the ideology of a "green" building. The hotel is made of all natural and recycled products. Lots of wood and steel! A sod roof with lovely plants/flowers growing on it. An outdoor summer patio with tables and some lawn to lie on to work on that tan. Really beautiful!
The owners, Jeff and Patty Baird, are working with some local outfitters to offer guests a more sporty, mountain experience, too. Tahoe Trips and Trails will be offering hiking trips this summer, fly fishing exercusions will be offered, and I understand, come winter, they will also offer back country skiing and snow shoeing adventures!
The hotel JUST opened and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They serve a yummy European style continental breakfast in their bar/lobby area. They do have a FULL bar, albeit a small one, and it is next to the lobby where you will also find a steel and glass fireplace and cozy leather couches.
They are going to put in a hot tub or two soon, I am told.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Go now when the rates are affordable because come summer, after this place "catches on", I know the rates will be out of reach for those on a budget. I think good things are in store for this place!
Unique Quality: The outstanding characteristics are the incredible architecturial design, the friendliness and helpfullness of the staff, the coziness of the bar/lobby, the location (close to town, ski resorts, the lakes, hiking trails, and not far from Hwy 80 if you want to drive into Reno to gamble or see a show), the very cool bathrooms in the rooms (LOVE the showers!) with spa products that are good for your skin, the luxuriousness of the beds with their Egyptian cotton sheets, cozy down comforters, and very, very comfortable beds - some of which are leather platform beds!
Directions: Central Truckee exit off Hwy 80, coming from the West, proceed in an easterly direction until you come to a 3-way stop sign: turn right and cross the railroad tracks and the river and you are on Brockway Rd.
