I thought this was an interesting mural (for a few reasons). It was the only one I found that had a politcal and military edge to it. Does that woman look Iraqi to you? (The subject matter of the whole mural is the Iraq War)
Chuck Caplinger is an incredible artist who can capture a moment in nature like it was frozen in time. He's originally from Houston, and made his way to 29 from Hollywood. I have several of his pieces; the one I treasure most is titled "Cosmic Coyote." His artwork is very reasonably priced. Call him at the number below for a studio tour.
The SUN RUNNER magazine and Website lets you know what's happening in Twentynine Palms and the Morongo Basin. This fabulous little gem was started in 1994 by publisher/editor Vickie Waite, and has become the leading publication for arts and entertainment in the area. I went to Joshua Tree in August 2004. It was hot and beautiful. I heard bobcats and coyotes. I walked among the Joshua Trees in the still dawn before sunrise and climbed the rocks to watch the sunfall. I ran naked in the desert and let the sun fall all over my body. It was one of the most wonderful free experiences of my life. I can't wait to go back and do it all again.
Right next to the main entrance of the Joshua Tree National Park is a beautiful desert wilderness area. It is the place we call home, 29 Palms, California. The town is small, yet thousands of tourists visit every year, the Park and the surrounding areas. The peace and serenity offered by the desert attracts a large community of artists as well. The community is a special place. It has taken many people from many backgrounds to form what is now “Our Desert Paradise.” While they have many of the same things that larger cities have to offer, it could be said that 29 Palms has less of them. It boasts one drive-in movie theatre, which is great in the summer, and new businesses are always springing up. With an influx of people moving out from the large cities such as Los Angeles, the future of 29 Palms is bright.
