More about Hotel Erwin Venice

Had an amazing anniversary weekend here!

by TripAdvisor Member LexiArtist

I had the most amazing stay at the Hotel Erwin this week. My husband surprised me with an anniversary getaway. We had the most spectacular view from our ocean view suite. The bed was very comfortable and the bright colors and nrew design are really cool. The staff was extremely friendly and more than willing to help us with finding restaurants and other places to go in this fun area. I would recommend this hotel to anyone I know.

This hotel in Venice Beach has soul!!! My family and I loved it......

by TripAdvisor Member ScottsdaleSteven

The staff was very friendly at the Hotel Erwin when we checked in which was nice because we had driven all the way from Scottsdale AZ. We stayed in one of the brand new suites overlooking the ocean. Really liked the new design and all of the art work. The suite was spacious and a pretty good value for our family of four as my wife and I had some privacy in the bedroom and were able to separate from our two sons who slept on the sofa sleeper. Normally I have to rent two rooms since the boys need their space.
We love Venice Beach, there is no place like it on earth..."Other-worldly" I'll call it. While the wife and I took a bike ride on the bike path the boys went skateboarding and played basketball on the famous courts. What a great vacation! We are trying to return to this gem when Arizona gets even hotter in August.

Great experience

by TripAdvisor Member 00neverhome00

I flew into LA for business, and after a delayed flight and problems with the luggage, I was expecting another disappointment at the hotel! Little did I know, that I had discovered a new and great place to stay in LA! I checked in pretty late (or early in the morning) with a bad headache and bad jet lag- but was eased by the gentleman at the front desk (with the cutest Caribbean accent) who was very nice and very professional! He got me to my room quickly, where I sunk into an extremely comfortable and clean (no odor) bed! I am very picky about where I stay, but had a pleasant experience with the hotel and its wonderful staff! Cheers to Hotel Erwin!

A great find!!!!

by TripAdvisor Member FoodieandWino

When we first arrived at The Hotel Erwin, we honestly didn't care about how nice the hotel would be because we were so happy to be right next to the beach!! We were pleasantly surprised!!!! It is going through a renovation right now, and turning into a great hip and modern hotel with such a perfect Venice vibe!! It gave us the full Venice experience but in a classy and modern way!!

Our room was so clean and fresh and hip and colorful!!! The bed was comfortable!! The servers, the front desk peeps and everyone were so friendly and welcoming!!! We had the best time in Venice and when we come back, which we will because we want to check out the rooftop lounge next time, we are definetly staying here again!!!!!

Very Disappointing

by TripAdvisor Member africa101

What a great location - where all the action is on the beachfront.
However, I strongly suggest you avoid at all costs. I was down here to attend a photography course, and picked what I thought would be the best option in the area. I was wrong. The hotel is still going through rennovations (I wasn't told this at the time of booking). The staff is very unhelpful. I had several problems with the room - no hot water, no garabage bin, phone didn't work, etc. The staff were totally disinterested. They didn't call back when they promised.
The work on the hotel didn't really affect me, but the unhelfulness of the staff was astounding.
Spend your money elsewhere. I was very disappointed.

thieves&noise

by TripAdvisor Member mammmal

Well, let's begin with the 2 only positive statments:
The location is great
Parking is ok - 15$

Then the negatives:
The corridors stank
The towels were dirty
The hotel is still in renovation
(not mentioned and no discount offered)
The employees were totally unhelpful,
Housekeepers soooooo noisy (don't expect any nap after a good nightlife and take note that the rooms are not soundproofed)
Housekeepers are thieves!!! (they even stole a jacket I left in the closet - BEWARE of your belongings).
No mini bar
The empty refrigerator took over the noise of the housekeepers during the night
No help with suitcases
Without asking and never been mentioned but they charge automatically 1$ for a charitable organization (which I strongly doubt)
Sound silly but no trash in the room...

Conclusion:
The Erwin doesn't worth it. It's an expensive hostel wearing a brand new tuxedo.
On the contrary, I would really recommend the Grafton on sunset where I stayed in my previous stay in LA. The amenities are way better for the equivalent price (pool, high speed internet, nice employees..) except the parking which is 28$.
I forgot my cellphone charger after checking out and they sent it to me back to Switzerland.

A beautiful modern place hidden in an eclectic town.

Our stay at the Erwin was great! My wife and I stayed on the sixth floor with the view of Venice Beach and we loved it. The room was very clean and the bed was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on since our stay in Maui 9 years ago. Sure the hotel is in renovation mode but we cannot wait to go back some day when the renovations are done and HASH will be open. The staff is very friendly and responsive to anything you might need. We fully recomend this hotel to anyone staying in Venice.

Fabulous experience on the Venice boardwalk.

by TripAdvisor Member California9

We stayed in in one of their newly renovated rooms on the 6th floor. The room was beautiful and the view excellent. It was located at the center of Venice beach with all of its attractions in easy walking distance. The manager and front office staff went beyond the call in friendliness and efficiency.

Feeling cheated and duped by the Erwin's incompetence and false advertising.

by TripAdvisor Member jbartok1

1. They tried to downgrade us to a lower level room. I felt like they were trying to trick us into believing that the room they gave us was the suite that I had reserved.
2. Room did not have the music system they advertised.
3. Carpet was nasty - stains, dark, and smelly.
4. Bathroom was organized horribly (e.g., no towel racks). Did not even have soap nor soapdish for the shower.
5. Telephone did not connect to the front desk. (Perhaps to avoid angry complaints?)
6. Parking attendants were totally incompetent. They nearly gave my car away to another guest.

This is a Motel 6 trying to mask itself as an "upscale" boutique hotel. Buyer Beware.
