A Delight Haunt
Bella Maggiore Hotel is situated in a perfect location along California Avenue between Main St. and the Ventura Pier. This quaint Italian styled hotel has very affordable rooms with an exquisite open air patio that makes a great spot for breakfast or lunch. The rooms are cozy and the service very accomodating.
Unique Quality: This place is said to be haunted- by a 19th century prostitute tied specifically to room 17. Its said that when she is out and about that the smell of roses becomes evident, even more so if you are in room 17.
We stayed here for one night in August to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. We chose Ventura for it's proximity to Los Angeles. My husband informed the hotel of our anniversary when making the reservation aand upon check in we were congratulated and told that a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine was chilling in our room. A nice touch.
The only constructive comment I would make about this hotel is to say that the bathroom was very outdated. The water in the shower could be likend to a trickle.
Unique Quality: Breakfast went beyond typical B&B fare. The menu was extensive, and the meal is served on a serene patio.
European charm in California
I can't say enough about the charm and grace of this hotel. The style is very european with an Italian flare.
The Bella Maggiore Inn offers 24 rooms for rent ranging from a room with a double bed to a suite. Each room has a comfortable bed, ensuite bath, shutters on the windows and some even offer a balcony, a fireplace or a jacuzzi spa.
Room rates start at $75.00 for the night and it includes breakfast in the morning and late afternoon appetizers.
Unique Quality: The courtyard is the prettiest place on the property. A tinkling fountain, flowers growing in abdundance, the french doors and windows that overlook the area make for a tranquil and idyllic setting in which to enjoy your meal.
We were there on a cool night and the lobby with an inviting fireplace and overstuffed chairs was a perfect place to sit and have a conversation and watch the people go by.
Within walking distance to the beach and the Ventura pier. Perfect location to walk and see the Mission San Buenaventura, the museums and shop the downtown area.
It is said that the hotel is haunted by a ghost named Sylvia. She is known for pinching the rear ends of many men.
