Travel Tips for Ventura

by LoriPori

Constructed in 1877 for Italian merchant Alex Gandfolo PEIRANO'S MARKET was one of Ventura's first commercial brick buildings. The store remained in the family until the late 1980's.
It has a wonderful mural at the side of the building, depicting how grocery shopping was in the old days.
Located in historic downtown Ventura at 204 & 208 East Main Street.

Experience Moments of Peace and Serenity

by keida84

While on vacation or holiday in Ventura you will probably visit the historic downtown area. After a day of shopping and walking you just might need to relax. One of the best places to do so is "A Secret Place Salon and Day Spa".

Located in the historic Bank of Italy Building owner Trisha Cozzens has done a spectacular job designing a unique spa in which most of the services are conducted in quiet and private rooms.

I can tell you there is a WONDERFUL tucked away room upstairs for manicures and pedicures. A must see for sure!

Various types of Masage (try the Tandem massage for a real treat) and wonderful facials on one of the most comfortable tables are offered. along with expert make up application.

You might want to try a new look, The staff all possess superior hairstyling skills and can transform your old look into a brand new you.

I highly recommend coming here for services, you'll be welcomed, pampered and will leave feeling relaxed and beautiful or handsome depending on who you are!

Located on the corner of Oak and Main Streets

Bread and Pasta Heaven

by keida84 about Romano's Macaroni Grill

Romano's Macaroni Grill is a chain restaurant without the feel of one. The interior is semi dark and lit with strings of bare bulb lights, tables are strewn about the floor and a open brick oven heavily stoked with fire is visable from the kitchen.

They take no reservations so be prepared to wait on a week end night sometime up to 2 hours. We make a point of going around 4 PM on the week end, the service is great and no crowds.

The restaurant now offers "Curbside to Go". Call your order in 30 minutes ahead of time, pull into the parking lot in one of the 'to go" spaces and your food is delivered to your car. The Tuscan bread is a staple on the Macaroni Grill table, lightly seasoned and coated with salt the bread arrives hot and fresh with olive oil for dipping.

Lunch: Try the Tuscan Lunch. It is a chicken caesar calzonette sandwich complimented by your choice of salad, soup or pasta salad.

Dinner: Chicken Parmigiano. Breaded chicken breast, tomato sauce, basil, mozzerella & Parmesan cheese with your choice of pasta.

Capellini Pomodoro: Angel hair pasta with fresh tomatoes, basil and garlic. Add chicken or shrimp

Dessert: Tiramisu. Layers of cake with marscapone cream, rum and esspresso.

City Hall - the Old Courthouse

by WulfstanTraveller

The current Ventura City Hall is in the old Ventura County Courthouse. It is up the hill from the rest of downtown and looks over the town with a nice view towards the Pacific Ocean. It is a fairly impressive building, and because it was the old courthouse for the entire county, it is far larger and more ornate than anything the city itself would have had from the same time. It has an impressive, dominant position over the town.

Harbor Village

by Jim_Eliason

This collection of tourist shops, restaurants and night clubs is a good way to spend a few hours. It basically a big tourist trap but provides a central location for numeous restaurants. Also on the island is the Channel Islands national Park Visitor's center.
