Brownie~ The Railroad Dog

Brownie was a stray that wondered into the station bruised and bleeding from being hit by a car. He was given some well needed love by the telegraph operator and soon found himself a home at the station. He greeted all those who passed through the station. He was fed regular by everyone who brought him scraps from home. They even paid for a vet when he fell ill. Sadly Brownie was killed accidentally by a train car. It was such a sad day for all those at the train station. They placed him in a box and buried him under a cottonwood tree in Forrest Park in 1945 and even passed the hat around to pay for a grave marker. I still do not know why the marker had to move from the park to the musuem.
