Oldest Commercial Structure
by SteveOSF
The oldest commercial structure remaining in Walnut Creek is the Albert Sherburne store which was built around 1863. It is located at 1315 North Main Street at the intersection of North Main Street and Mt. Diablo Boulevard, which is the site where the first two roads leading to the present day town met. Although partially destroyed by fire in 1879, it was rebuilt the following year. This building has housed many businesses over the years including Arthur's Liquors from 1935 to 1973. Today the old building is the home of a Mexican restaurant named La Fogata.

So many area residents (and visitors too!) comment on the terrific shopping here in our city--and believe me, it draws people from all over. We have Nordstroms, Macy's,Tiffany's, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, Barnes and Noble etc. Now the word is we'll soon be home to Prada, Louis Vitton, among other designers.
