Fifty years ago the freeway from San Francisco to Sacramento went right through West Sacramento on West Capitol Avenue. A number of hotels and trailer courts were constructed. The majority of them have deteriorated significantly or gone out of business. However one place, Rodeway Inn stands out as a nice motel at an extremely reasonable price.
I last stayed at the Rodeway Inn in July of 2010. The hotel is located on the 800 block of West Capitol Avenue about a 1/4 of a mile from Raley Field and about a mile from downtown Sacramento.
It is an older style motel, two story with rooms that open directly to your car and the street. What is surprising however is how well kept up this hotel is. I stayed in a room with two queen beds. The room had a patchwork of furniture however everything in the room was spotlessly clean. The bed was comfortable and despite a little bit of noise at around 10 pm there was no loud noises during the night. The owners of the hotel are very attentive to meeting the needs of their guests quickly.
What was amazing is that I paid $ 45 for the room including tax with a senior (over 55) discount. The continental breakfast in the morning was skimpy. There was coffee, orange juice and a few donuts and breads in the lobby. However for this price, less than half of what the big chains such as IHG and Hilton charge in the City this place is well worth it.
There is a supermarket (Safeway) about four blocks down the street, a diner, and a coffee place about the same distance.
So why pay more when you can stay in a nice place for less than half of others? If you don't believe me please check the trip advisor reviews on this place. Amazing no virtual tourist members have reviewed this place yet. However it is well off the freeway and not easy to find.
Old cozy motel with very clean rooms at a very reasonable price.
