EC Lodge Yosemite by goingsolo Although the place describes itself as the closest lodging to Yosemite, that's not exactly true. The EC Lodge is located on the west end of Mariposa, about 40 miles from the Arch Rock entrance. Its a simple no frills motel and not cheap, but that's because of the location. But its clean, comfortable and the owners are super friendly. They helped out with everything from suggesting places to eat and things to do to getting a replacement tire for the rental car. If you're not staying in Yosemite, this is the place to spend the night.

On my fist trip I stayed right in the centre of the valley at Yosemite Lodge. The rooms are fairly basic, but the location is fantastic. Very close to Yosemite Falls. Can't remember how much it cost but definitely no cheap even in the very low season. The facilities at the lodge are quite comprehensive - even if in December the place was almost empty, it was nice to sit in the bar in front of a huge log fire. One nice feature was the regular presentations about various aspects of the park in the evenings by park rangers.

Location, location, location! This motel is situated at the west entrance of Yosemite National Park, which means that it takes just 10-20 minutes to drive into the valley, so long as construction/road works aren't taking place. Great views of the Merced River and El Capitain as you drive in and out every day.
Full queen kitchen-equipped studios to sleep four on two levels. One "room" is bigger than some town homes. Huge bathrooms. Awesome spas to relax in after a 8 hours of hiking each day. 2 restaurants to choose from, plus a grocery/gift shop adjacent to Reception. Housekeeping won't do your dirty dishes unless you leave a generous tip on the counter. Yosemite Lodge by goingsolo Yosemite Lodge is located right in the valley, which is its primary draw. The Lodge itself is nothing fancy, and its rooms are standard motel rooms, some with the added bonus of a great view. Because its in the park lodging, the prices are steep, but its a good choice for anyone planning an early morning hike who doesn't want to sleep in a tent.

Yosemite Lodge is probably where most package tourists staying in the valley will stay. Rooms are fairly bland; while they include a TV, they don't have air conditioning. Yosemite Lodge has a convenient shuttle bus stop, too. We stayed here for one night while in Yosemite; while it wasn't wonderful, it was okay.
Yosemite Lodge's best quality is its close proximity from Yosemite Falls; it's actually closer to walk to Lower Yosemite Fall from here than from the Yosemite Fall parking area and shuttle stop. This way, you can wake up at 6 AM and head to the falls, when you'll most likely be alone.
