Loved this hotel!

Perfect location on the slopes. Major construction going on but stay was still first class. Magnificent hotel, casual elegance, very comfortable rooms, incredible luxurious bedding, Elk bar was friendly dark and warm... with fireplaces and overstuffed couches and large top shelf selection. Room service was excellent for early am breakfast. Outdoor firepit created cold weather ambiance... as did outdoor ice skating rink (August!!!) Spa was closed due to renovation but they were doing basic services in guest rooms set up as makeshift treatment rooms. Even though treatment was top notch, lack of service was disappointing. Very nice to have guest laundry on each floor, as new airplane carry on rules were implimented mid trip. This hotel was a great choice.
what a disappointment

We arrived at this hotel (9 of us in all) on New Year's Eve, we expected to be pampered in every way (it was certainly costing enough). What a disappointment - this hotel is living on its location, which is fabulous - however, everything else is overpriced and mean. Corners are cut at all levels - the rooms are basic in every way -the mini bar in the rooms is empty - drinks are available using their 'cafe' system, which basically means that you have to order and wait if you want anything. There are no coffee/tea making facilities in the room (first time I have encountered this in the US) and the decor is dingy and drab with scant cupboard and drawer space for all our ski kit. The turndown service consisted of the maid opening the bed and dumping anything that had been inadvertantly left on it (including our night clothes) in a heap on the chair - chocolates appeared on the first night - but not subsequently, and the 4 bottles of water allowed per day between 5 of us was only replenished on request. The room appeared not to be cleaned the whole time we were there and our courtyard view was actually of the hotel entrance and car park. We were asked to leave the hotel bar at 10pm - and staff then proceeded to vacuum around our feet. I could go on...and on...
On a positive note (and I am struggling here) - the ski valet service was great and the staff pleasant enough, but completely ineffectual - obviously instructed to smile and do nothing. I really feel that the people giving this hotel such good reviews (which we checked before choosing!) must have been staying somewhere else - All in all a thoroughly depressing experience - thank goodness the snow was good - although this in no way made up for the shoddy lodgings and hefty credit card bill
Location and Very Expensive

You can not beat the location of the Park Hyatt and the convenience if you have young children. However, our room left a lot to be desired for the price. We stayed in a Penthouse Residence and found that the owner's could have provided a bit more "class" in their unit for the amount of money that was charged. Our teenagers were very bored in the evening and we didn't notice many other "teens" at the resort.
We found many items in the penthouse much lower standard than the hotel rooms we have stayed in previous years. The owner's locked up the DVD player, the tv's were very old and very, very, small. The stove top had only 1 working burner and it was sporadic, the kitchen old. The refrigerator door is broken, the fireplace had no gas starter and no matches or kindling, the screen broken, no safe, no robes, overcrowded with furniture and poorly decorated. The Internet is free for hotel rooms but not residences, there wasn't a pad or paper to be found. The shower was a nightmare with either too hot or too cold and the master shower needs a makeover with all the staining. The toilets constantly ran, the washer/dryer, very old. It seemed that this particular unit was furnished from a garage sale.
Our flight arrived at 1pm and the hotel could not honor check in until 5pm. The staff was very courteous and as helpful as they could be. The fire pit outside from 4-5pm (free S'more's)was our favorite amenity.
We had dinner in the restaurant hotel and it compared to a room service meal. The breakfast buffet was very nice.
The spa services are way over priced and they automatically charge a $20 use fee everyday on top of their services and the 10% resort tax, so be prepared to spend much more than the advertised price.
Beaver Creek is one of the most expensive vacations you will ever encounter!
