Going to Boulder end of Sept / beg. of Oct
by Aimdogg
Hello,
I will be visiting Boulder for nine days this Sept/Oct. It will be my first time ever to Colorado, I'm very excited!! What is not to be missed? I'm into: hiking, lakes, local live music, restaurants, bars, and whatever else you think I should check out while I'm there! Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi Amy,
Well, you are visiting at the best time of year. The weather should be beautiful, but be prepared for pretty much anything. There is local hiking at Chataqua Park and Sanitas, or you can drive into the local mountains for hiking (Brainard Lake and 4th of July Trail to name two). I'd recommend that you stop in at a local outdoor shop like REI or Neptune Mountaineering to ask for suggested trails and maps. You may also like to rent a bike (University Bikes, 9th and Pearl St) and ride the miles and mile of bike path ... Pearl Street is where the action is for shopping and great restaurants. Some of my favs: Sushi Torra; Brasserie 1010 (great happy hour!); The Kitchen (gourmet organic); Aji; Frasca.. There are so many... for live music, check the schedules at The Fox Theater and The Boulder Theater. But for a real treat, catch a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Golden. Buy your tickets early, shows sell out fast!
Enjoy your stay,
Connie
Travel Tips for Boulder
Boulder Creek Path
by goingsolo
Boulder Creek Path is a popular walking, jogging and bicycling path which runs through the city. As its name suggests, the path follows Boulder Creek. The main path, which is about 5 miles long, splits off into a series of biking and walking trails running through the city and along the river, creating a 20 mile network of trails.
beware the white man
by shohman
It always shames me when I read of how the Native American's were forced off their land and killed off by the white man. Chief Niwot wanted to be peaceful, and was killed off just a few years after the white man arrived. There are several monuments in his honor here. Stop and read up on him.
Typical Rocky Mountain...
by Teledude
Typical Rocky Mountain lifestyles. Meaning pretty homogenized America. It is still an ever shrinking bastion of liberal thought though. One of the last remaining 'free' places of Colorado. The state in general is getting to be very right-wing republican and not in a good way (as if there could be one). One of Boulder's chief concerns is growth or better yet the need for a lack of it. The environment can't handle it and this shows in the attitudes of Boulderites. But, as growth is, it can't be stopped-only slowed. It's a lose/lose situation and Colorado and Boulder will eventually pay for it.
Mountain biking
by goingsolo
There are many biking trails in the Boulder area. The trails range from the Boulder Creek Path, which is relatively easy, to the tough ride up Flastaff mountain. Bike rentals are available.

Flagstaff Mountain
by goingsolo
It is possible to drive to the top of Flagstaff mountain and see the view of the town below. The road is narrow and has several hairpin turns and it climbs pretty quickly. Also, cyclists use the road as well so the drive is a bit of a challenge.
There are a few hiking trails here as well as several pullouts where you can stop and enjoy the view. The Flagstaff House restaurant, known as Boulder's finest, is located on the mountain as well.
