Moving to Boulder

by momofjen

Does anyone have any advice as far as looking for an apartment in Boulder? My daughter is moving there from Massachusetts this summer with a friend and they are both students so price is a big issue but also it needs to be a safe area.

Also, they're going out to look around on spring break next week so any ideas for fun stuff to do would also be much appreciated!

Thanks

Boulder is an expensive area. It has one of the highest densities of professionals, graduate and PhD residents. But you would not know it from looking at their jeans and casual clothes. As far as safety, myself and my friends in the area have always felt all of Boulder was quite safe.

Accomodation is pricey, so they might have to go out of the city center a bit and commute in. And getting roommates will definately help.

Pearl Street is a fun place to hang out with shops, restaurants and clubs. But otherwise, the mountains offer endless hiking, biking, skiing, snowshoeing, etc. The last time I was there, I went skiing 4 days and then snowshoed up to Brainard Lake.

Boulder as town IS safe area.
I live in students area, which is inexpensice and in downtown, you can try to call my landlord as she is in charge of 3 different properties in the center ; Faye Brundage 303-444-2190. The location is near the university and much quieter than on the "Hill" which is the location for the CU students accomodations, hang outs etc.

Boulder is a very safe place and a little expensive but no worse than many places on the east coast. Check out http://www.boulderopenhouse.com for a wealth of resources about the town

Travel Tips for Boulder

Boulder is a fairly nice, friendly town

by denver1983

People in Colorado often say Boulder is stuck-up and rich...this is not true...there are several interesting places to go in Boulder

--The flatiron mountain section of the front range sits right on Boulder, you definiitely will want to take your camera

--The air in Boulder is so clean...I mean you can smell it...and the watershed quality in Boulder for like 10 years have been amongst the best in the country

--Boulder's pearl street mall has alot of interesting stuff for kids to do, they always interesting performances and circuses for people

--Starvin petes at 12th and pearl, on the pearl street mall which is a smaller, more homogenous clone of Denvers 20 block 16th street mall has excellent burritos and I believe last time I was there I had like a veggie and tofu burrito for like 3 dollars (at prices like that thats a sign of the down to earth people who live in Boulder

Indian Peaks wilderness

by goingsolo

Indian Peaks is so named because of the numerous jagged moutain summits in the area. This designated wilderness area is close to Boulder and is only about 25 miles west of the city. There are lots of hiking trails leading to alpine lakes and mountain summits. But the area is so heavily used that permits are required for overnight camping during the months of June through September.

Boulder is a very laid-back and friendly place: Never honk your horn casually in traffic, always smile and say hello when passing someone on a hiking trail (even if you don't know them), and never wear a tie to dinner.

Climb the Flatirons

by bradbeaman

Climbing is one of the main reasons that Boulder is ranked as “America’s Number One Sports Town” by Outside Magazine. The Flatirons at Chautauqua Park have some of the best climbing in Colorado. The Third Flatirons is world famous.

i definitly advise going to see someone perform at the Red Rocks.. it is so awesome.. i saw Ani DiFranco july 5th at Red Rocks.. it was great. there is a small stage and then the wooden benches that semi-circle it.. along the sides of the benches are these huge red slabs of rock.. and the sound it just amazing.. you should check who's playing and try to see someone you would enjoy..
