Travel Tips for Colorado Springs
General William Palmer's sculpture
by OlenaKyiv
The monument to General William J. Palmer astride his favorite horse, Diablo, is located right on the intersection of Nevada Avenue and East Platte Avenue.
The initial proposal to erect a monument to honor the General was suggested by the Chamber of Commerce following Palmer’s death in 1909, but it was not until April 1923 that city voters approved the site by a vote of 3,151 to 871. At that time, Nevada and Platte Avenues were the major north-south and east-west highways through the city. The selection of the site sparked a controversy regarding automobile safety that continues to prompt periodic calls for the statue’s relocation. Designed by sculptor Nathan Potter, with his prominent associate Chester French, it was formally dedicated on September 2, 1929.

Layers, layers - Yes, Layers!
by JacNDav
One bag with wheels will travel, but a backpack is nice to have for everything, from walking along shops to hiking in the woods. hiking boots or shoes with a good tread
Dress in layers, T-shirts, under long sleeve shirt, with a sweatshirt/sweater -
Always take a coat
light weight for summer, but a good one for winter especially if you're going to the mountains. We can still have a blizzard in May or June, then the next day it will be 76F degrees Sunscreen
Lotion
There are bugs but not a lot, there are mosquitos - I use lemongrass oil in my lotion to keep the bugs off of me. We like the collapsible water jugs; they're lightweight, fold up and can be filled with a couple of gallons of water for your camp
Don't leave home without a Leatherman!
The first stake of Fountain Colony
by OlenaKyiv
Right behind the sculpture of the Range Riders on Pikes Peak Ave. in the shades there is a small monument (simple thin stone) which says, “The first stake of the Fountain Colony was driven here July 31, 1971.” This is the place from which Colorado Springs begins.

Alternative progressive art rock. Based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado; This self proclaimed "post toolian progressive art rock band" are an up and coming talent and sound. Still at the grassroots level, and inspired by otherworldly craziness, the band is starting to creep out of the darkness into the light of the human world, mesmerizing the spirit with their unique enchanting sound. Visiting their May 2006 show at the "Dead Ant Tavern" in Colorado Springs - I was impressed with what I saw and hearn and can see a future being woven for this band in the near future. They have a good outlook and a promising future. While I was simply attracted to their show by the appearance of the mystical and rare image of the Elven Star, I was awarded with a nice evening of good vibes. Rating: 3 1/2 stars out of 5.

Dead Ant Tavern
(719) 598-9867 * 4348 Montebello Dr, Colorado Springs, CO 80918
A strip-mall hole-in-the-wall sports bar with a decent atmosphere for the sports fan and bar crawler. Good drink specials with mondays being men's night at a reduction of 75 cents off any drink. Usually free cover for many shows and a source for some up-and-coming bands followed by karoake on mondays. Rating: 3 stars out of 5.
Top Ranked Neighborhood Italian Restaurant
by Tugboatguy about Luigi's Restaurant
Here is an instance where it behooves you to eat where your boss eats. I was on a business trip to Colorado Springs, one of many trips here, when my boss who was along on this trip said he always ate at Luigi's. So, Luigi's it was. There shall be no disappointment at this friendly Italian restaurant. This place makes you feel instantly at home, with great aroma of Parmesan cheese and other Italian treats of the palate.
It seems that everyone in The Springs but me had or has eaten there. Can be crowded, but very accommodating. Excellent service and just great food. Pastas, pizzas, salads and more. Child friendly too. I ordered lasagna, my test of a good Italian restaurant. Fine salad and prompt service, considering the lasagna needs oven baking. An entirely satisfying meal, almost too filling. You will enjoy and savor your dining experience here.
