The Grand Dame of the Rockies

Picture yourself as a Robber Baron with your own private railroad car and the owner of the largest mining company in the world. You have in the senate a brother with the nickname of spec (as in speculation with the taxpayers money). You have just done the Grand tour of Europe and you want the kind of grand hotels you saw in Europe but bigger and better. Ok -- you get it this is the Broadmoor.

Unique Quality: The Broadmoor is one of the places that really big meetings are held with something close to 800 or so rooms 3 golf courses and ranked 3rd as a tennis destination. It is really amazing with over 3,000 acres tucked into the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains. It has 15 restaurants and lots of both indoors and outdoors open space.

The place, the setting is truly beautiful. But one needs to be into opulence to really enjoy.

"Grande Dame of the Rockies"

The world-famous Broadmoor is a destination resort spa hotel with three golf courses, a fitness center, three swim pools, tennis courts, child care, dry cleaning, salon, shops, florist, shoe shine and concierge service in ten buildings of Italianate renaissance architecture dating to 1918. Presidents and other Heads of State have slept here. Truthfully, I haven't. But, if you are planning a special vacation or wish to celebrate a very special, once in a lifetime occasion such as your 25th or 50th anniversary, this could be the place.

There are 700 guest rooms, including 107 sumptious suites. Amenities include data ports for high- speed internet access in every room, daily newspaper, room safe, robes and CD players. The average room rate is $280 nightly, but try to reserve with senior discount, or off-season if applicable.

Unique Quality: The Cheyenne mountain setting overlooking Cheyenne Lake is both stunning and breathtaking. First sight of the grounds and buildings invokes awe at the impeccable condition and grandeur of this place. At over 6,000 foot elevation, the air is brisk, clear and pure. Night stargazing is incredible above the air pollution of other, lower atmospheres.

I have only eaten here, and one of my restaurant tips covers that fine dining experience. But, I feel from roaming the place a bit that a fair recommendation if you are seeking lavish surroundings with comparable treatment is in order here. At least once in our lifetime we should indulge a bit. A stay at The Broadmoor could be the time and place. Best season is late Spring through early Fall to take full climatic advantages of your stay, unless you are still an avid winter sports enthusiast in your senior age.

Old world splendor

The Broadmoor is a nice older resort hotel with a country club feel. The grounds are beautiful, and there are many things to do, such as spa treatments, golf, tennis, swimming in the pool, and walks around the lake.

Despite all that it has going for it, we were only satisfied with it. While it was a very nice place, it didn't feel as comfortable as some of the other luxury hotels we have stayed at. The staff was pleasant and attentive, but it seemed like it was forced.

We stayed after reading about it, and then subsequently seeing it featured on the travel channel. It certainly did have some charming features, but not enough to bring us back.

Unique Quality: There were a couple of good restaurants on premises that we enjoyed. Nothing comes cheap, but the food was excellent.

Colorado Spring's Broadmoor Hotel

I was fortunate enough to be staying at the 5 star rated "Broadmoor" hotel while staying in Colorado Springs.
I was there with my boss for a conference and I have to tell you this hotel was amazing!! The grounds are gorgeous..the Cheyenne mountains in the back of the hotel are quite a sight.
The service at this hotel is incredible.
Of course it does'nt come cheap. I believe it's somewhere in the neighborhood of $185 a night for a "basic" room..but if you've got the money to pamper yourself a bit, this is definitely the place to do it.. The hotel will arange tour trips for you to all the major sights & attractions around the area..
It was a wonderful experience (especially the yummy robes they provide for you in your room...)
Enjoy!

Unique Quality: Lake, mountain views, infinity pool with water slide..spa & golf club

The Broadmoor

The Broadmoor is Colorado Springs luxury hotel which dates back to 1918. It is well known for its stunning architecture, excellent service and fine dining, among other things.

This place lived up to its reputation, except for its spa, which is another story. I loved walking around and checking out the landscape and the pond in back. As you'd expect from a place that advertises itself as the epitome of white glove elegance, the Broadmoor is ultra ultra formal, to the point of being ingratiating. Not my type of place in that regard, but ,with all the amenities, the Broadmoor is a resort unto itself and definitely worth a visit, if not a stay.

The rooms were fantastic and not lacking in any comfort. The twelve or so restaurants scattered throughout the property range from jacket and tie formal to casual pool fare.

Given that the prices are generally very expensive, I'd recomment a visit in the off season when you can score a pretty good deal.

Unique Quality: There are 4 or 5 valets who stand at the entrance and open the door, saying, in unison, "Welcome to the Broadmoor." It seemed a bit over the top to me, but it does fit the hotel's persona, being a five star establishment and all that.
I was tempted to keep walking in and out of the hotel to see if they would keep repeating this process, but I figured that wasn't very nice.

Staying at The Broadmoor

by mattandmandy

My husband and I will be staying at The Broadmoor for one night in a couple of weeks. We are really looking forward to it. We visited the hotel last year when we had brunch there and of course noticed that the hotel is HUGE and there is a ton to do. We wanted opinions on what not to miss at the Broadmoor from others who may have stayed there before. Thanks!!

Hello,
You are lucky to be able to stay there.
Very near the Broadmoor is a German Restaurant which is exceptional. Go to my travel pages to read about it. This place has stood the test of time. They have music on the weekends.
Colorado Springs has lots of things to do.
There is a zoo near the hotel, and you can drive up Cheyenne Moutain. On the way is Will Roger's Shrine.
7 Falls is minutes away, but it costs to get in there.
These are the nearby things, within minutes of your hotel.
They have a performance area, so check to see if they might be having a concert.
Good luck.
Dave

Have dinner at Summit. The food is exceptional. We ate at the Tavern and some of the other restaurants and the food just did not compare to Summit.

Also, be sure to check out the wine bottle collection in the main lobby (next to the bathrooms and the tavern). It is truly amazing. Spend time walking around the property. I highly recommend the hot stone massage at the spa.
