Nice Perk
This is a nice business hotel. I am a Gold Ambassador in their rewards program and received complimentary drink coupons at check-in. It is close to the airport, food, and gas.
Opinion of Price: more expensive than average

I'm looking for a whitewater rafting trip that begins within a couple of hours of Denver. I've searched online a bit but haven't found anything. I thought someone who lives there might be able to direct me.
Re: Where is the closest whitewater rafting trip?

I don't live in Denver or even Colorado for that matter, but when I was a wee bit younger and my cousin was going to U of Colorado in Boulder, we did a white water raft trip down Clear Creek near Idaho Springs, about 30 some miles from Denver. I know that there are several whitewater rafting companies in the area. Try to google whitewater rafting in Denver and see if any come up. One company I remember has the name of a ski area, Breckenridge.

Most people go to the Arkansas River around Salida to raft, but the Clear Creek River around Idaho Springs is the closest. There's also rafting on the Cache de la Poudre outside of Fort Collins, which will take you a little over an hour to reach from Denver. http://www.awanderlustadventure.com/

Yes, the Arkansas River is a great white water area as is the Royal Gorge area for exciting experienced rafting of class IV-IV, but it is about 120 miles from Denver and could take up to 2 1/2 - 3 hours to get to the rafting sites.
Travel Tips for Denver
A Mile High
by DEBBBEDB
My son and husband didn't visit the capitol per se but they did take pictures of the building and sculpture outside. The capitol building is a one of the key features in the memorable Denver skyline and looks somewhat like the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C. One of the main features of the building is a round brass cap embedded in the west entrance stairway reads as follows: Elevation: 5280 feet, One Mile High, 5-12-69.
Photos 2 and 4 are my husband and son taking each other's pictures on the step Photo 3 is the scupture of the Indian (oops - Native American) and dying Bison on the east lawn. Preston Powers, one time dean of the Art Department at the University of Denver and son of sculptor Hiram Powers, was commissioned to make a bronze sculpture for the 1893 World's Fair Exposition at Chicago. Powers, who was a close friend of the poet John Greenleaf Whittier, commissioned the poem for the base of the statue.
See the Denver Zoo, Ocean...

See the Denver Zoo, Ocean Journey, Elitch Gardens (Six Flags). Definitely leave the city and head to the mountains (West on any highway will get you there :). Also, look East and notice how you can see, well, pretty much forever.
Cheers!

Visit Coors Brewery in Golden (ten miles outside Denver). It's one of the largest breweries in the United States. A guided tour through the complex is free and includes three drinks in a beergarden after the tour. But be careful: the whole brewery smells awefully good like wheat, malt and hop. A great selling trick. It made me order Coors instead of Budweiser for a couple of months. Just because the memory of the fine smell got stucked with me. My fondest memory? The Coors smell? Maybe. No. I think it was arriving at Denver International Airport - one of my most favorite places in the city.
The Civil War Monument
by OlenaKyiv
The stone base of this monument is adorned with four tablets that list the battles and the names of the soldiers who died. Also chiseled into the base of this grand memorial is the proud statement that Colorado had the highest average of volunteers in the Civil War of any state or territory in the Union. Another plaque on the statue refers to the discovery of gold at Pikes Peak in 1858 by Green Russell and others. The plaque on the north face of the monument simply reads, " For the Unknown Dead." Originally two black walnut trees from the home of Abraham Lincoln flanked this memorial. While the trees no longer stand, there is a plaque within the capitol commemorating the generosity of President Lincoln for his donation to the beautification of our capitol.
packing for the weather
by caffeine_induced78
The weather fluctuates a lot anytime of the year. It never freezes in Denver in July or August - but it has snowed here in June. Winters can be cold but sunny - so bring a heavy jacket and sunglasses. The sun reflecting off the snow can be blinding. Bring shorts anytime from April through October. always bring a tent and sleeping bag when camping in the mountains. You never know how cold it will get at night or if it will Thunderstorm.
