Bike Riding in Denver

by andreaarp

I'm Coming to Denver for a few months and am wondering if I have my bike with me if it will be neccesary to rent a car downtown or if one could just bike ride all over the downtown. Are there bike lanes at all? I am experienced in bike riding in a city- I ride to work everyday 7 miles each way in Chicago.

Denver's very bike-friendly. Parking isn't especially easy in Downtown Denver, so I would think that you'd have an advantage. You can also take your bike on the light rail system with a pass that's available for free (although I've never seen the transit cops actually check anyone for it) and all the RTD buses have bike racks on the front of them.
It's a little hilly in central Denver. LoDo is below Downtown and Capitol Hill is above Downtown. Fairly flat in between and elsewhere. It's nothing like San Francisco or Seattle though.

You can Google "Downtown Denver Bike Commuting", or something similar, and you get hits. You could probably get more specific information that way. Gary

I've commuted many times in Denver with a bike and found it to be very easy. Among other things, the drivers in Denver tend to be much more courteous to bikes than many other cities (downtown Chicago or the Loop for example).

Off course you can drive good in city, Chicago. I think you can hire car for downtown travel as well as Rocky Mountains area. Denver is outstanding place to visit due high mountains area, Park, bars, hotels and specially Denver Limousine services. I am also good biker and I think in new city or area traveling is little different.anyway

Travel Tips for Denver

by Shananagan

Take advantage of a sunny day and go for a walk or run in one of the parks. Washington Park is the trendiest, but City Park and Cheeseman Park have better views. Even in the winter, they're glorious! When I'm on the road, I really miss going out with friends--we like to go downtown or, alternatively, to one of the restaurants that line 17th avenue.

If you like Museums, most of the Museums here are pretty nice.
The Denver Art Museum: www.denverartmuseum.org; they are building an addition so there could be some construction going on for the next year or 2.
The Denver Museum of Nature & Science: www.dmnh.org/info/visplan.htm; they have an IMAX theater and usually have something fun playing.
The Colorado History Museum: www.coloradohistory.org/hist_sites/CHM/chm_geninfo.htm; I would only recommend this if you REALLY like history though. It's not the most interesting museum I've been to.
The Children's Museum of Denver: http://www.cmdenver.org: I have never been there, but I have heard generally good things about it. People with children usually enjoy it.

The Auraria Campus - Metro State

by OlenaKyiv

According to a web site of Auraria campus Metropolitan State College of Denver is "the largest undergraduate college in the United States." It is possibly true.

Metro state is most popular among older students, who came back to school for a second bachelor's degree, to finish degree that was started years ago and dropped, or just for an additional knowledge. Such a favouritism is due to softer rules of acceptance of previous credits, to environment, and to cheaper tuition.

It is illegal to mistreat rats in Denver, Colorado.
You may not drive a black car on Sundays.

A-Basin

by EGitan

Not a bad ski area when there is good snow. It is more of a small locals ski area but is less expensive than some of the other near by ski resorts. Nothing flashy, but the lines are usually short and they have a nice little bar! Nothing out there! Bring layers! You can rent skis there but it is cheaper if you rent in Idaho Springs.
