Last minute trip to Denver for New Years. Any advice?
by Phantasm
Going to Denver on a spur of the moment trip for New Year's. I'll be there this weekend and will likely be staying at the Raddison Stapleton hotel on Quebec since the rate is pretty cheap. I'll be getting a rental car, as I've been advised it's much easier to get a car to get from place to place. I'm hoping that there isn't any snow/ice that will thwart the usage of the rental car. Have the roads been fine the last week or so? Seems like this option will be much cheaper than getting a hotel in the Downtown area.
What are the neighborhoods for 20-30 year olds to hang out at night? Also looking for any cool rock n' roll clubs/dive bars.
Any input/advice for my last minute vacation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Staying on Quebec by Stapleton means you pretty much absolutely have to have a car: the light rail doesn't go there and there's limited bus service. There's very little in the area but there is a large shopping complex with chain stores and restaurants just across the street (Quebec).
For neighborhoods, look at Washington Park, Capitol Hill and LoDo. LoDo will be your best bet for a bar scene, but parking is difficult there. If you want to see live music, check out the Bluebird Theatre (http://www.bluebirdtheater.net/) and the Ogden Theatre (http://www.ogdentheatre.net/), both on East Colfax and tend to have good bands playing.
Since you have a car, make a trip up to Boulder. It's a really pretty town.

The hotel rates I've found are pretty high in the Capital Hill, LoDo and that's without factoring in extra charges for parking. Out by the Stapleton is so much cheaper and has free parking. I thought I'd get the rental car to check out Boulder and to see Red Rock and the Rockies. I'm actually going to the Bluebird for the New Year's show.
Travel Tips for Denver
I'll never forget and always go back!

I would take them to the races, because it's a time you won't soon forget! My fondest memory of Denver is getting Kenny Bernstien's autogragh on his final year of racing. He is the drag racing "Budweiser King". i have it framed and hanging on my wall. It might be worth some money someday....we'll see, i guess! I also bought some parts off of a female racers car. The picture is right after we got back to the hotel room.
Great outdoors
by goingsolo
Spend as much time outdoors as possible, and take advantage of the 300 sunny days per year the tourism commission swears the city has as well as the great network of city and state parks. There are 27 parks in total, all within a short distance of the city center. Most of these, like Roxborough State Park, shown in the photo, are largely uncrowded and are great places to explore. Hiking in Red Rocks on a beautiful spring day.

Denver Art Museum
by OlenaKyiv
Denver Art Museum located in downtown Denver near Central Park consists now of two buildings: North building and Frederic C. Hamilton Building.
Since its beginnings in the 1890s as the Denver Artists’ Club, the Denver Art Museum has had a number of temporary homes, from the public library and a downtown mansion to a portion of the Denver City and County Building.
The museum opened its own galleries on 14th Avenue Parkway in 1949, and a center for children’s art activities was added in the early 1950s.
In 1971, we opened the North Building. Most recent expansion, the Frederic C. Hamilton Building, opened in October 7, 2006.
Ride the Rockies

http://www.bicycletourcolorado.com/ - this is the ride I want to do here. I need to get in shape for this, but it would be an awesome experience and a great achievement. This seems to be a smaller version of the Ride the Rockies ride about a month earlier .... need to start training for 2006!
