"Beautiful airport!"

"Only one day."
We had only one day to see something of Denver, but the weather was fine and we could have a nice walk through a part of the centre. A street with sidewalk cafés, trees and all sorts of shops.
I saw the first schoolbus and I love them!

Travelling in Colorado in Febuary
by Angeleigh
Hi there, I am planning on travelling to Denver and surrounding areas in February 2009, and wouldlike to know which routes are closed over that time of winter as I have heard some passes are closed anually over winter due to snow etc.
And any other tips on what one can do/see during that time, I am very fond of the outdoors, photography and hiking, so any tips suggestions would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks

You shouldn't have any major problems getting around in Feb as most main passes are kept open - they ARE pretty used to the weather in that neck of the woods! There's plenty of online info regarding forecasts, up-to-date road conditions, webcams, etc. - useful site is: www.state.co.us/conditions_dir/conditionsmenu.html
Obviously you want to get up into the mountains to really appreciate a Colorado winter and as good a base as any would be one of the towns such as Dillon, Breckenridge or even the resorts such as Vail or Keystone - plenty of info here on VT on these. Personally, I wouldn't base myself in Denver itself.
I assume you're driving and so make sure you've got a decent vehicle (idealy 4WD) and snow tires.
Not so much hiking though - snow-shoeing and cross-country skiing are the order of the day if you want to get off the beaten path.
For a bit of wildlife you could take in the Rocky Mountain National Park - Estes Park is the town to stay for accessibility for there.
I was there for a couple of months in total, Jan/Feb two years ago, based in Keystone and that was as good a base as any and no problems getting around the area.
Enjoy and if there's anything else you need to know don't hesitate to ask.

The way this site really works is if you tell us a bit about yourself by building a homepage - no need to give too much away ;p
Also: a general question, such as yours above, can best be advised if you provide some info. Useful info would be - how are getting there? (flying and then renting a car?). Are you travelling by yourself, in a group or with partner/family?
Other useful info would be - are you on a budget? (Well we all are, aren't we) Big or small?
We are here but without guidance we are lost ;)

Definitely visit Estes Park if you can! We were there in October for the Elk Fest and it was wonderful! Darling little town, lots of nature, lots of Elk around. We stayed at the Stanley Hotel - whether you stay there or not, try to book a tour of it - very beautiful & historic. The food at their restaurant was excellent too!
Hope this is helpful!

Indepedence Pass will definitely be closed. Also Trail Ridge road in Rocky Mountain National Park will be closed above 10000 ft. Those are the most popular ones that remain closed through May. Most of the other main ones will be kept open as much as possible.
Travel Tips for Denver
All right Cisco - here's the skinny on the laws.
by caffeine_induced78
I've never quite known what to put under general tips but the local laws sound pretty good. The City of Denver levies a 12 percent lodging tax. The sales tax when eating out amounts to 7.2 percent of the bill. My favorite part - the liquor laws here in my great city. Don't make the mistake like I did of buying beer in the quick mart at the gas station or grocery store. They can only sell 3.2 percent beer (aka Mormon beer). You have to go to a liquor store if you want the full 7 percent beer or any hard alcohol. Liquor stores are closed on Sunday but the bars are open (any logic in that!!?!?). Last call by law is 2 am but I suppose some bars could close earlier if they wanted. The many, many, many good breweries, bars, and clubs.
Architecture-Ideal Building / Denver National Bank
by Toughluck
Built in 1907 for the Ideal Cement Co. (it was the first reinforced concrete tower west of the Mississippi), the building later became home to banks. The building features a facade of travertine marble and decorative carvings, and was fully restored to its original condition in the 1990s.

Light fixtures in State Capitol
by OlenaKyiv
Electricity became available in Denver in 1886, the year construction on the Capitol began. However, the builders did not trust the reliability of electric lighting and insisted that gas be used. As a result, all of the light fixtures were originally constructed with the capability of being powered by either gas or electricity. Over time, all fixtures were converted from gas to electricity. The last gas fixture was converted in 1930.
Ski Steamboat
by EGitan
Steamboat Springs is about 3 hours from Denver. They have great skiing for both the Beginner to the Expert levels. The town is quaint and they offer great deals on Condo rentals throughout the season. Every Dec they run a special for 2 nights in a condo/two days skiing, plus a jazz concert for $130 USD. The town also has a natural hot springs which is nice to relax in after a long day of skiing. Bring all the right ski gear, and a health insurance card if you are skiing with someone like me. There are plenty of shops downtown if you forget something.
