Two Days Visit In Denver - Is the U.S. Mint worth visiting too?

by COMEONDOWN

Hi there,
My son and his wife will be visiting Denver these first week of July. They would like to visit the U.S. MINT. If you have visited the U.S. Mint, would you have any tips for us? Would you know the exact location? Thank You.

I have visited the mint, and thought it was very interesting. They give guided tours. I didn't set it up, so I don't remember hours or admission fees. That information should be easy to find on line.

I visited the mint as well - technically you're suppose to make a reservation but I didn't and there was room for me when I showed up. In the summer, since it's vacation time, there might not be room for walk-ups so if you want to make sure there's room make a reservation at the mint or call (or go online) before hand.
The guided tours are given at certain intervals (I think it's at the top of each hour) and as I recall, they open fairly early so you may have a better chance of being able to walk up and get a tour if you go first thing in the morning (and you have to take a guided tour, you can't just explore on your own). It was very interesting, I thought. It's a free tour.

It's located downtown on Colfax between Delaware and Cherokee, not far from the art museum (which is great too by the way).

YES! But get a reservation.
It is amazing how they make our coins and ship them.
Then walk to the Capitol and take a look at the Gold topped building. I think you can go to the top for a great view.
I have some other reviews, check them out.

Travel Tips for Denver

Sunshine 300 days a year

by DawnAmeena

There is amazing sunshine. The clouds break up over the mountains and the sky is clear when it reaches Denver and the surrounding suburbs. In WINTER, we will get dumped with snow sometimes, but that wonderful SUNSHINE will MELT IT ALL in just a few days. I have gone many winters (if you don't go skiing in the mountains) WITHOUT having to BUY BOOTS.

Denver Tip

We were just in Denver for the St Patrick's day parade. Billed as the second largest parade of its kind in the US it lasted over 4 hours long! No, we did not watch the entire parade, but it was fun for a while! I think this picture depicts the parade...

Take a walk along the 16th Street Mall. There are a lot of interesting stores and restaurants worth checking out. The only vehicle allowed on the mall is the shuttle bus so it is generally safe for children to run around.

Central Park - McNichols Civic Center Building

by OlenaKyiv

Located on the North-West side of the Central Park near Voorhies Memorial.

This classically designed building was originally Denver’s first centralized public library. In 1902, Andrew Carnegie offered the city $200,000 to construct the library on city owned land. Between 1886 and 1919, Carnegie’s donations of more than $40 million paid for 1,679 new library buildings in communities large and small across America. A New York City architect, Albert Ross, was selected to design the library in 1904. He had already designed numerous other Carnegie libraries in Atlanta, Nashville, and San Diego. The building was dedicated and opened to the public in February, 1910. The Greek Corinthian style of architecture characterized the only occupied building located in Civic Center. Platte Canyon granite and Turkey Creek sandstone was used for the building walls and the carved columns. The "Old Main" library served downtown Denver for 45 years, until the City commissioned the firm of Fisher and Fisher/Burnham Hoyt to design a new Central Library at the corner of Broadway and 14th Avenue.

The old library was extensively remodeled when the Denver Water Board moved into the building in 1957. Unfortunately, much of the original interior was gutted and replaced with contemporary offices and several major exterior modifications were made during that period.

Currently, the building is occupied by administrative offices of various city agencies.

COORS FIELD AND THE COLORADO ROCKIES

by Rich62

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL, NATIONAL LEAGUE STYLE. Coors Field seats 50,000 for home games. If you sit in the row of purple seats you are exactly one mile above the oceans. The stadium has its own brewpub. Bring sunglasses, that Colorado sun is really bright. Also sunblock and a cap for shade. Lots of ultraviolet rays up here, you know.
