More about Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast

A wonderful spring break

by TripAdvisor Member jane.janers

We spent three nights at Country Sunshine during our spring break driving trip through Colorado and New Mexico, and it was just perfect for us. The two teenage girls with us loved it - they spent an afternoon reading in the hammock, and loved the hot tub outside and the great breakfast. (We had more bacon in three days than we've had in the entire past year! And everything else was just perfect - delicious and so nicely served.) We loved watching the woodpeckers and goldfinches and all the other birds at the feeders.

Walter and Jody were very hospitable and we loved staying with them in their peaceful and lovely place. We felt as though there was plenty of privacy and solitude if we wanted it, and at the same time, a very warm and friendly atmostphere. There were a number of other kids there at the same time, and they were very much welcome. Walter and Jody were very helpful with everything - train tickets, directions, restaurant recommendations, and everything else. We really hope we can come back someday.

Great retreat in Southern Colorado

by TripAdvisor Member SFskier_x2

My fiance and I stayed at the Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast for two nights with my parents and had a great experience. It is a quiet, charming retreat just outside of Durango with delicious food and great hospitality. Walter cooked wonderful breakfasts each morning, and greeted us with goodies in the afternoon and evening (cookies, cheesecake, creme brulee). The mountain setting, with a river in the backyard and a lovely new deck outside, is peaceful, however the B&B is less than 15 minutes from Durango, 15 minutes from the ski resort - all making the location great for all sorts of vacations. The rooms are fair-sized, clean and cozy feeling - but not too cutesy which is nice. We plan to go back, as do both our parents, and we would highly recommend it to our friends and family!

The best!

We just returned from Durango and we had the best time at Country Sunshine. Walter and Jodi were so friendly and helpful, and the house is beautiful and very well-kept. Everything was so peaceful. We couldn't have felt more welcome! One of the best b&bs I've ever stayed at--can't wait to go back!

Best Place Ever!!!

My Fiance and I just got engaged during our trip in Colorado. This was the most amazing and memorable trip we have ever taken, not only because we got engaged, but because of Country Sunshine! Jodie and Walter were outstanding hosts!! I have never received such perfect customer service. They make you feel so special, offer to take care of anything (they booked our train ride and jeep tour), they cooked the most amazing breakfasts every morning, and fantastic desserts every evening (especially the homemade cheesecake and creme brulee). I guarentee you will not be disappointed if you stay here, because it's perfect. They have a fire going every night out in the fire pit, always have stocked beverages and little snacks out, and it is so increadably clean! Cleaner than the nicest hotel! This place is most definetly a 5 star!

Perfect in every way

Words cannot describe the ambience and hospitality of our host. While we did not get to meet Jodi, Walter made our stay a most memorable one. With his breakfasts and nightly desserts, it was hard to leave even with so many other things to do in the area. Our only regret was that we could not stay longer. We will be back.

Wonderful!

We stayed at Country Sunshine for two days in August during a visit to Mesa Verde and a day spent rafting and riding the narrow gauge railroad. The breakfasts were wonderful and the desserts were a special treat when we returned in the evening. Walter even got up early to cook breakfast for us the morning we rode the train, even though we told him not to.

We loved eating breakfast on the lovely desk and watching the birds. I've never seen so many hummingbirds in my life. We were traveling with our 8 yr old son and everyone was very welcoming to him. He loved roasting marshmellows over the open fire pit and thought this was the best place we stayed on our trip. He begged to stay another night and told the owner of a lovely B&B we stayed in at Taos that he liked the this B&B better than theirs (oops, but he was right!)

Walter was a genuine host, a wonderful cook, and a great source of information about the area. We also enjoyed the other guests, and the free wine and beer one afternoon after the long day riding the train and river rafting. Our room was pleasant and the bed very comfortable.

Our whole experience way exceeded our expectations and we'd love to come back.

Great place to stay

by TripAdvisor Member Ruthiebook

We just spent a delightful overnight at the Country Sunshine Bed and Breakfast outside of Durango, CO. We had driven down to Durango to ride the steam train to Silverton. It was a rainy day (unusual for Colorado), but afterward we drove the few miles north of town for a lovely evening at the Country Sunshine, with such accommodating and friendly hosts, Walter and Jodie. They gave us a great suggestion for a place for dinner, and when we returned Walter was serving excellent creme brulee desserts for all the guests. We watched woodpeckers and rainbows from their deck, overlooking the lush valley view. The king bed was wonderful, all amenities observed and nicely decorated, and the fabulous breakfast of fresh fruit, potato pancakes and chicken/apple sausage was outstanding. Other guests were heading out for interesting hikes, after studying maps provided by the hosts. I can't imagine finding a more pleasing place to stay.

Perfection

The Country Sunshine is my favorite place to stay. We have stayed 3 times now and each time Walter and Jodi have been the perfect innkeepers.
I wanted to share the experience with my family and this time we were able to do that with this stay. My whole family feels the same as we do, they loved it. Walter and Jodi makes everyone feel so special. They go out of their way to make your stay the best it can possibly be.
In May we stayed there while we celebrated our 34th anniversary. It was one of our most special anniversary celebrations, all because of Walter and Jodi.
We think one of the best qualities of the inn is all the guests feel so comfortable. Whether you're sitting around the tables out on the deck or the dining tables inside everyone talks and enjoys the interaction with each other.
If you want a truly happy experience during your stay in Durango skip the hotels and stay with Walter and Jodi.

What a place........

by TripAdvisor Member Billius

Durango, and particularly the Country Sunshine has to be one of the best places in the US. From the quirky plumbing to the evening desserts, the place reeks with homeliness, friendliness, and an atmosphere hard to find in most B&Bs. Walter was an excellent host, engaging, helpful and a wonderful cook, or is that chef?. We only met Jodi on our last morning, but she was also extremely helpful when we booked our stay, pre-arrangng our wonderful Jeep/ Train tour of Silverton and the surrounding mountains. From Mesa Verde to the slightly distant four corners and Monument Valley, Durango has it all, including pictures of Oprah. Then home at night for a dessert, a beer round the pitfire, and a chance to meet others travelling through. All in all, as good as it gets.

The “Truth” about the Country Sunshine Bed & Breakfast

The truth is, that it’s fantastic. My girlfriend and I went there for 3 days. Every encounter with the proprietors, Walter & Jodie was joyful and genuine. Country Sunshine is located 15 minutes outside of Durango. It is a beautiful place to spend some time. It is relaxing and centrally located for all of the wonderful things to do in the area. Walter & Jodie provide you with all you need for wonderful time away in a beautiful place. The mountains are picturesque; the breakfasts are gourmet all the way. Walter makes sure you never leave the table hungry. And every bite is a delectable mouth watering treat. The end of the night desserts is to die for. Walter’s chocolate chip cookies are addicting. The locals ask for them – Be warned!!! The lodge is set up with a relaxed and casual atmosphere in mind. Walter & Jodie give you the run of the place. They provide all your needs, to make or bring back a nice meal on site. Or you can go to one of the many restaurants in the area. They have all the menus for viewing at your fingertips. The bottom line is, Country Sunshine is your home away from home. With the exception that you don’t clean up or do the dishes. Go there you’ll love it.
