Doubletree Hotel Durango

I think this is the only full service hotel in Durango. Since it was off season, I got a room for $50 a night instead of the usual, which is around $150. The rooms are standard but have a small balcony. There's a nice view of the mountains from here as well. The restaurant is pretty good and the hotel bar is supposed to be a good weekend hangout.

Wonderful Place to Get Away!

by TripAdvisor Member Likes3StarsorBetter

The Durango Doubletree was a very nice experience. Situated right next to a rapid moving river, we enjoyed every minute of our stay. It is within walking distance of Old Town Durango; and the Durango to Silverton Train Station is just across the street. Our room was spacious and comfortable in addition to being very clean. The hotel staff was friendly. Although we had many dining choices in Old Town Durango, we wound up having our meals right in the hotel dining room which has very large windows that overlook that scenic, fast moving river! The food was quite good and it was fun to watch the river rafters negotiating the rapid waters. Our room did not have a river view. The only thing we would do differently, if price was not a concern, would be to get a room overlooking the river with a balcony. What a great place to sit and read a good book while listening to the river go by! I highly recommend this hotel. It has the best location in Durango and was a truly nice place to stay.

Overpriced but convenient

by TripAdvisor Member TheBebster

We stayed here for 3 nights; The rooms are very spacious, but for $200/night I'd have liked better amenities: perhaps a refrig in the room, free AM coffee in the lobby and/or free continental breakfast. Also, the selection of TV channels is pretty lame, esp if you're travelling with kids. This location is directly ON a walking/bike trail next to the river. We had a riverview room - very pretty. I would recommend that you not stay on the lower level of the hotel though due to drunk people/locals that wander the route at night and occaisionally like to hang out on the lower patio of the hotel. We got pan-handled TWICE here -- very surprising & annoying. Perhaps the hotel should have room-key locks on its patio gates at the back of the hotel ? Also, quite a bit of dog noise (barking, doing their thing on the bushes) on the river side as pets are allowed in the hotel.

The location of the hotel is fairly convenient to downtown Durango; Though it is a short walk to 'historic downtown', you have to cross a busy intersection and 5 lanes of traffic. Still, as long as you're fast its not too bad. We rode the train up to Silverton while here too -- convenient for the train station and saves $7 in parking fees. Hint: if you're taking the train UP the mountain (we took the bus back) sit on the RIGHT side of the train for the best views (seats 1-22); Also convenient for getting to the Strater (fun evening atmosphere) and to the Melodrama, which I HIGHLY recommend for outstanding family entertainment. Parking in Durango is tight, so definitely get a place where you can walk to things and not have to drive if possible.

Hotel is very good but forget the restaurant.

by TripAdvisor Member Rt66tbird

This hotel is wonderfully located. Built by Red Lion Inns. Their locations usually were by rivers or water and featured large enjoyable rooms. This is still true, of course, but the restaurant food is not up to par and the staffing is deplorable. Most act as if they are doing you a favor by waiting on you. I had stayed at this property a few years ago and had found the same negatives regarding the Edgewater Grill. I had hoped that at this time all this would have changed. No such luck.

Nice location a bit expensive

by TripAdvisor Member DCroamer

A nicely-situated, somewhat expensive hotel in a lovely if isolated town. The room was very nice, clean and well appointed. The staff was very good and helpful. Pool is ok, gym was adequate. The river-front was lovely, but the rooms with that view were over-priced. I agree with the last poster, stay away from the restaurant. It has a nice river view and the staff was nice enough, but the food was ho-hum and expensive. There are much better options elsewhere in Durango.

Wonderful Stay !

by TripAdvisor Member ccliff5

We stayed at the Doubletree in Durango as part of our trip which included a ride on the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Steam Railroad (see separate review).

We upgraded to a "riverview" room - certainly worth it ! - we could open the sliding doors at night and listen to the sounds of the river rushing by. Just Wondeful ! - The room was very large - nice (new) bedding)

Very friendly service at check-in -

We had dinner in the hotel restaurant the first night - would rate as "ok" - (typical hotel
restaurant dining room)

Would stay there again in a minute !

Convenient place

Stayed at the Doubletree July 1. Good location. Very convenient to the downtown area which is only two short blocks away. There are several very nice older properties on Main Street, but that area has heavy foot traffic and can be noisy at night,. I had a riverside room which was very nice. I had a very nice dinner at the Cyprus Cafe.

Luxury in Durango

by TripAdvisor Member 1sandybeaches

Staying in the charming town of Durango we did not expect to find a fancy resort or luxury hotel, however, we were more than pleased with the Doubletree. Our room had a great view of the Animas River and we were able to enjoy the view from our balcony. The rooms are spacious (we have a family of 5) and we were all very comfortable in the Sweet Dreams beds. We especially enjoyed the warm chocolate chip cookies upon our arrival. The hotel is conveniently located near the historic downtown Durango, complete with wonderful restaurants (we had the best Mexican food at Tequila's) and fun shops.

Perfect

by TripAdvisor Member Radio_Dude

There were many things about this hotel that were outstanding. The cookies, beds, staff and all of it was quite. It made it so easy being within walking distance of rafting, the train ride and all of the shopping. This hotel has their act together, wish we could have stayed longer.

Location, Location, Location

This hotel is in an excellent location and is very nice and clean. If you are put on the highway side of the hotel be prepared for a lot of noise. I believe this hotel is overpriced but if you are looking for the best in Durango, at the best location, this is it. There is a Holiday Inn down the street that is in just as good of a location as well as the Strater which is located on the main street in Durango. There are also some smaller mom and pop hotels north of town and would not hesitate to stay in one of them. They all look great, too. What a great town!
