If you don't like the outdoors, forget it.
by donsgal
I am not an outdoor person. Generally speaking, I have no desire to go outside except to get into my car. Needless to say, in Durango I am like a fish out of water. Durango was created for those poor deluded souls who live for a good hike, bike ride or kayak trip. For those of you who are like me, go someplace else. Las Vegas, New York, Phoenix, Tulsa - anyplace but Durango. There is really nothing to do in Durango once you have gone to the Bar D Chuckwagon Dinner, The Melodrama and taken the Train. The bars, if you want to call them that, are laughable imitations and Cheers wannabes without evidence of a single original thought by the designers or decorators. The sidewalks roll up at about 10 pm and you might as well be 80 years old if you want to have fun any later than that.

Durango has been called the mountain biking 'mecca' of the United States and was the site of the first UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in 1990. There are numerous past and present World and National Champions that call Durango home. There are links on this site to the current world standings.

Durango, Colorado

I lived in Durango for 5 years. I saw the town from both the college student perspective, and the perspective of being a resident and worker. The town is very "touristy" but there are many things to do if you don't just want to be a tourist. You don't have to be an outdoor nut to enjoy the town, I certainly am not an outdoor nut, but of appreciation of the outdoors and nature is a must to live in Durango.
