need advice on places to stay in estes park

by kathy51

My husband and I will be flying into Denver July 12 for a week and are looking for a nice place to spend the week in or near estes park. We want to spend $100 or less per night and would like a nice cabin or timeshare with hot tub and kitchen and deck. Any suggestions and also any tourist advice for things to do and see would be appreciated.

If you're familiar with Estes Park, then I could send you to a couple dozen things to see in Rocky Mtn NP, but Estes Park itself is geared to receive tourism dollars -- full of small shops and restaurants. Condominiums there are on the rise. Traffic is becoming a worsening problem. There are a few lodges and hotels there, but for what price I don't know. If you'd like tips on the national park, email me or check my Rocky page.

I would advise that you consider driving through Rocky Mountain National Park and stay in Grand Lake on the other side. There are loads of places to stay and its not as touristy and expensive as Estes Park.

A Beautiful Stroll

by WanderingAimlessly

Although it is part of the Rocky Mountain National Park, Lake Lily is reached by HWY 7 and is several miles south of Estes Park. However, it is well worth the drive. It is a small lake and you can easily stroll all the way around it. But is has glorious views of the mountains and Long's Peak. There are restrooms and picnic tables there. It is beautiful no matter the time of day you go.

Awesome buffalo burgers!

by sfeekes about The Grubsteak

We ran across this place while we were walking around downtown. It was just right there when we got hungry. I didn't get a good look at the interior because we set outside on the patio. It's well covered so there's plenty of shade and there was a nice breeze. It was very nice for lunch. We all tried the buffalo burgers and they were delicious. We meant to get back there for dinner but we didn't quite make it.

Excellent Breakfast

by WanderingAimlessly about The Notchtop Bakery and Cafe

This wonderful restaurant can be easily missed if you don't look for it. This is a restaurant, bakery & coffee shop. They serve breakfast, lunch & dinner every day. They have the best coffee in town. My husband could have sat there and drank it all day long. They serve great breakfasts - both menu options and specials. The price was extremely reasonable, considering the size of the meal you got. Lots of locals go there. Most tourist were down the road at the Egg and I. They also have free wireless internet. Their French Toast and Pancakes were excellent.

Enjoy the view

by Packerman

This scene was photographed from the top of a mountain which we must have climed about 300 steps on a very windy day. There was a small rest stop with a gift shop and small restaurant. Why does taking in a view like this just make you glad to be alive? You never chose to exist, and you can't choose not to die.
