Holiday Inn at its Best
This being the first time I had stayed in a US hotel I decided to play safe and go with a hotel group and being a member of Intercontinental Hotel's Priority Club searched their site to see what came up.
Looking for a full service hotel with internet access, the Holiday Inn Rocky Mountain Park seemed ideal, especially as the rate was just under $72 and the location in town perfect for our visit to the National Park the following day.
Definitely not disappointed!
On check-in I was informed that unfortunately they did not have a standard smoking room as I had requested, but would an upgrade to a suite be acceptable? Hey, don't ask me twice!
As expected from Holiday Inn the room was spacious, spotlessly clean and well-appointed, even though I did get a little confused by the tiny television in the main living area - but that's another story! The only complaint I had was that we were only staying for one night, especially as I was offered a rate of $49 if we wanted to extend our stay.
Unique Quality: The hotel itself is modern with a decent sized swimming pool, restaurant, bar and comfortable lounge areas, though I gave the pool a miss, preferring to concentrate on the Bar!
Included in the room rate was a complimentary drink for both of us which seemed a shame to pass up, and of course the ploy worked - the complimentary drink turning into half-a-dozen and a bite to eat. A small unexpected bonus were the guitar duo playing a reasonable mix of easy listening rock classics and country which made for quite a pleasant evening.
