Travel Tips for Fort Collins

Colorado State University campus

by yooperprof

Colorado State University is a "Research I" institution with about 27,000 students, originally founded in 1870. Although it is generally considered to be "in the shadow" of its more prestigious neighbor rival, the University of Colorado at Boulder, CSU does have some outstanding programs, particularly in agriculture and veterinary science.

In the summer 2007, I spent a week on the Colorado State campus, working as a reader for the Advanced Placement exams. It worked out very nicely for me, because my brother and sister-in-law live just a couple of miles from the university. And I very much enjoy being out on the Front Range, which was clearly visable from the Student Union building where I was working.

Apparently, June 2007 was a fairly wet month, and so the CSU campus was unusually "green" for this time of year!

Anheuser-Busch Brewery

by cheesecake17

Fort Collins is the second largest producer of beer in the state (the state that is ranked third in the country in volume of brewpubs and craft breweries).

Taste their award-winning beers and ales year-round, or visit when the city hosts the annual Colorado Brewer's Festival on the last weekend in June.

You got to be 18 tto be able to sample the free beer...Usually 1 beer glass per person but all you can eat nuts..:)

Tours: June-Aug: 9:30am-5pm daily;
Sept: 10am-4pm daily;
Oct-May: 10am-4pm, Thurs-Mon.

Try their Chicken with Knocchi and Prochuto!!

by Rissa about The Crown Pub

On College Avenue (very near Old Chicago) is a pleasant bar with an Irish pub feel. The Crown Pub has a nice selection of microbrews (including many from New Belgium). They offer bar stools, tables, and sofas inside and patio dining on the sidewalk Chicken with Knocchi and Prochuto!!!

Creative Zymurgy on the Range

by yooperprof about Coopersmith's

A Fort Collins' Institution. My brother and his wife take all their guests here - it's a tradition. Coopersmith's is wildly popular with college kids, yuppies, middle aged hospital administrators, and wilderness exploration leaders. It's the beer that's the big attraction: big-bodied, boldly flavored, unapologetically hoppy. For dining, there's a wide variety of vegetarian, pseudo-vegetarian, and "Al Gore"-friendly items on the menu. It's loud, convivial, and you'll feel good about yourself for eating and drinking here.

Hidden Coffee Haunt

by Sagespot about The Alley Cat Cafe

The Alley Cat Cafe I'm listing in the Off the Beaten Path section due to its location. Often over looked by the average tourist, the Alley Cat provides a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a cup of joe. Located to the south of the Old Town Fort Collins area, the coffee house provides 24 hours of food and coffee with free wireless and internet stations for customers.

Additionally, located below the store is the Animus bookstore.
