If you show up in late summer, make sure to visit Orchard Mesa and buy some peaches. This fruit stand is Ernest and Ruth Ball's on G Road in Palisaide... just outside Grand Junction actually. The peaches are so pretty. One of the attached images is digitally alterred.
This cold water geyser is located about 9 miles south of town and you go through the old Government missile testing site to get to it. The trip is fascinating, and the geyser spews out every 12-16 hours. I did not wait around that long to find out. I did see a trickle of adjacent water coming out of the ground; not a geyser, though. The travertine formation of the rippled layers of minerals is due to those minerals coming to the surface and gradually flowing into the various layers shown today.
I used to go over to Grand Junction to visit my grandmother. During one visit I was sleeping soundly on a spare bed and everyone decided Grethen would do a good job of waking me up. (I'll get a picture of Grand Junction on this front page, this is place holder.)
