Just outside of Grand Lake, barely within the boundaries of the Rocky Mountain National Park, is Grand Lake Lodge. The lodge sits high above Grand Lake and the view from the lobby and porch, as well as the swimming pool is stunning. There are no accommodations in the lodge itself, but in the number of cabins which sit behind and up the mountain from the lodge. The lodge and cabins are only open from early June until early September.
At our last visit to Grand Lake (June 2008) We were saddened to learn the Grand Lake Lodge is not open for business. We drove out to the site, but were prevented from reaching the lodge itself. We were told that there was a good chance it would re-open with new owners. Worth checking into!
Even on summer evenings a wood fire is kept going in the huge fireplace within the lodge. It's neat to sit around the fire, talking about the day's discoveries with other travelers.
