A condo complex on the photo was built just recently. Downstairs have stores and upstairs residential apartments. Those condos cost enormous money, something around $400-500 grand, mostly because of the expensive store square footage downstairs.
The view from this trail was incredible. The mountain wasn't unbearably steep, but you could reach some height pretty quickly that afforded fantastic panoramas.
The picture is of me running, wishing I had trained on some hills and that my legs didn't feel like lead.
Don’t limit your visit in Manitou Springs only to Manitou Avenue, walk up Canon Avenue, where you can see Cliff Hotel, US Post Office, and also a residential area. The last one is the most interesting because Manitou Springs location on the hills changes the way houses customary built. Instead of being lined up, as we see in modern residential areas, Manitou Springs houses are lined up in figurative meaning, they are spread up the hills like the stairs.
Aside from being the cutest lil place, Manitou Springs is where the Pike's Peak Marathon begins. I've never done that marathon, but I've run about 6 miles on the course, and it is pretty rugged. Especially for one not used to the incline or altitude.
I was there for the national runner's club convention in Colorado Springs and stayed in nearby Manitou Springs. What a great place to hang out.
