Basically you have a few choices. There is a hostel in Nederland within walking distance of everything in town. I tis very small but friendly. There are a few hotels also. One is the newer Best Western right downtown. It has modern accomodations. But it has NO soul. Once inside, you could be in any Best Western anywhere. The Nederhaus Motel is small but fairly inexpensive. The Goldminer Hotel in Eldora (out of town a ways) offers un-paralled solitude-maybe a little too much. But the town of Eldora is about the smallest you'll see in Colorado. There are only a few year round residents as the winters can be quite brutal. I wouldn't recommend it in Winter (if it is even open) The Sundance Lodge just a little up the road from town offers inexpensive lodging, excellent food, and live music some nights. And in the summer, you can go horseback riding across the street.
Most places will cost between 20-30 $/night depending upon the season. In Winter, it's very cheap because it's not a resort town-thank god! It's a real town. But in the summer it fills up during the day only to empty out again at night. There is a great ski area just 10 minutes from Downtown Nederland-Eldora Ski Area is fairly large and uncrowded. You can catch a city bus to and from either Nederland or Boulder.
Don't expect to be swimming at any of these places although some offer a hottub. Most are way too small, And nobody up here has a swimming pool! It's too cold most of the time and if you really wanted to go swimming you'd jump in the nearest river if you were brave enough. The thing about staying up here is that it's just a starting point for some great adventures in the mountains.
