I enjoyed the mountain scenery located all around the Salida area. From the front of our cabin we could see Shavano Peak and the Angel of Shavano. The rocky stream in this picture was just feet from the back door of our cabin, and the wildflowers were in full bloom.
On a long trip from California to Homelake Colrado to visit and help my aging parents, I received an interesting road trip gift. The trip went from Carmel to Phoenix and on up to Colo. My parents condition has deteriorated to the point that I had to take over as power of attorney .I needed to make a spur of the moment 99 mile one way trip to Salida and wound up with a stellar day, a great trip and awesome memories. The road was all mine, and the dreaded extra trip wound up being a fun side-trip. I took care of business, got to Bongo Billy's and visited an old friend and Chicago Bears buddy. Monte Vista, 285 thru Saguache, up and over Poncha Pass and into Salida and back...an extra 200 miles in a 3000 mile trip didn't seem that big of a deal, especially when its to help your folks.
