Mountain Motel: A Salida classic
It is a great little motel at a great price and besides there is a liquor store on the property!!
Unique Quality: Good rates, sattelite, not a chain, liq store on premise

Cabins the the Mountains: Get Out of Town!
In the years since our visit to the Salida area, I have lost track of the name of the "resort" in which we stayed. It was located in the mountains west of Salida, just off of US Highway 50. Our log cabin sat right next to a mountain stream. Most memorable was the horseback ride high into the mountains led by one of the lodge employees.
The facilities were a little rustic, but at least had a kitchenette and "indoor facilities." Our daughters made friends with the chipmunk shown in this photo. He seemed to like green grapes.
Unique Quality: There are a number of these resorts in the Salida and Buena Vista areas, many of which have web sites. Some are elaborate, some rustic.
