Driving out of Silverton away from the Million Dollar Highway you will find many areas where you can make your own camp. Here is a photo from one of my trips there. You will have to bring your own water, and there are no toilet facilities. This is real camping, not a rent a spot.
Get your own firewood, you will need it. It gets plenty cold at night.
The view is one of the best in all Colorado. You are surrounded by peaks over 14,000 feet.
The Silverton Inn and Hostel is located at 1025 Blair street and current summer rates
are: shared dorms $22 per person +tax, and private rooms are $30 for one person and $40 for 2 + tax
You can camp out in the backyard for $10 per night, and camper showers are $6

At one time this hostel was an old gold assayers office and it has been said it also was an old bordello.
