Perfect backcountry snowboarding
by KaiM
Are you looking for real deep and dry powder? How about some tree runs? Perfect backcountry? Then take the Storm Peak Express lift at Steamboat. From the mountain top you can easily access the backcountry. I bet you will find terrain with no tracks. I was there on a powder day with several feet of new snow. Gorgeous! One of the best snowboarding days I ever had.

Welcome to Steamboat Springs, Colorado...Ski Town USA... Steamboat was the destination for my 2002 snowboarding trip, which is becoming an annual event to thumb my nose at Darwinism.
The 2002 trip included the same cast of characters as last year's trip to Copper Mountain: Dave, GG, Action Jimmy and myself (note: I am typically referred to as Karl on snowbarding trips and amongst close friends). And although it was the same cast list as last year, we were all truly different people...what a difference a year can make on the sound of one's bones creaking and crackling. At the end of the day, I think I was more excited about soaking my bruised and battered body in the hot tub than taking on the mountain again.
But day after day I found the courage to muster enough strength from my inner being to open a bottle of beer and stretch out on the floor in front of the TV after the day's ride....ahh, Newcastle never tasted so good...
