More then a Ski town
"Hahans Peak & Steamboat Lake"
A short 30 minute drive from Steamboat Springs is a quaint little village named for the mountain just to north" Hahans Peak" . There you will find a resturant a B&B an outfitter, a strange little store called "Things & Stuff " and a small museum run by local volunteers. Gold was discovered on Hahans Peak and there are several old abandoned mine sites up on the Mtn.you will need a 4X4(well ,you could hike ) to get to these and the abandoned Ranger station at the top. They say that "Butch and/or Sundance were held in the old jail cell you will find on the back deck of the old schoolhouse. Some one may relate to you the story of the only range war a shepherd was really shot by a cowboy .
Right down the road you will find "Steamboat Lake state park " with camping, fishing, boating , a complete marina with boat rentals, bait and everthing you forgot.
In the winter there is crosscountry skiing, snowmobling, and of course ice fishing.
