The top of Mt. Werner is at 10568 ft ( 322 m.) and the base is at 6900 ft ( 2100 m). The altitude plus the fact that this is a very dry climate means that you can become dehydrated very quickly . Drink lots of water , not wine , beer or coffee. We got lucky with weather and snow..
When I arrived at Steamboat on a grey December day in 2002 I almost couldn't see the mountain. I was standing on the parking lot and saw a wall of clouds. But who cares. Lots of clouds means fresh snow. And fresh snow means fun on the runs. I entered the chair lift up to Storm Peak and had a fantastic powder day. It remained cloudy and foggy the whole day. But the snow was awesome. A new feet-high layer of dry powder. I did some first tracks between the trees.
