Avalanche, the movie
I am not a particularly good skiier and have not skiied a great deal but I have been blessed to ski in the Appalachians, the northern and central Rockies, and Europe and have had amazing adventures in each of these areas. The second of my Great Ski Adventures was at Telluride. It was after the movie "Avalanche," the 1978 version, had been filmed but before it had been released. All the buzz was about Rock Hudson, "snow bunny" starlets, and "post-production" work that was supposedly underway. There were many lovely young ladies there but no sign of anything "Hollywood."
Each time I see, or even think about, the movie, two images/problems monopolize my thoughts. The beautiful two story fireplace, which eventually becomes the focal scene of the movie, was also the focal point of our apres ski activities while we were there and brings back many happy thoughts none of which could possibly have been associated with an avalanche because the hotel where those scenes were shot is about three miles from the ski slopes with surrounding topography which would make an avalanche virtually impossible.
The skiing was great as well.
