"Great Food, Great View!"
The Mezzaluna is located in the Lions Square Lodge which is located right next to the Lionshead Gondola. It was very different décor-wise from the Mezzaluna we visited in Aspen. The furniture and surroundings were not that impressive, (about a step down from Olive Garden type décor); but it was comfortable. It also was a little expensive for the mostly noodle entrees we ordered, but we felt it was worth it. Our total bill was $107.00, (see what we ate below).
There were large windows with a view of the mountain and Lionshead runs in the daylight; in the nighttime you see the lodge's pool and 2 Jacuzzis in a green misty glow below. Also, our water was refilled before empty and we never had to wait for anything, including the fresh, warm and crusty bread served as soon as we were seated.
The wait staff we encountered were very friendly and attentive, we could not have asked for better. As an example, Fettuccine Alfredo was not on the menu but one of the people in our party asked if the chef could prepare it and add chicken as well as broccoli, to which our wonderful server replied “No Problem!” I therefore ordered plain Fettuccine Alfredo and was very impressed!
There was a bar area seperated from the eating area which looked like it had some good apres ski specials, but all in all even though the whole place was a little small it had a cozy type of ambiance. They also have complimentary parking. Instead of describing 1 dish, I will describe our whole meal:
Appetizer:
Bruschetta Caprese $9.00
Consisted of Basil and Mozzarella on 3 small toasted breads, (1 ½ by 2 ½ inches wide). Very tasty, yet expensive for what was received. The three of us had to share with the fourth person in our party. We wouldn’t order it again.
Entrees
1. Fettuccine Alfredo
Delicious! Noodles prepared Al Dente, tossed in a creamy, flavorful Alfredo sauce.
2. Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken and Broccoli
Delicious! Was the best she had ever eaten, (she brought a doggy bag home and re-heated it that night because she couldn’t wait until morning).
3. Chicken Parmigiana
Delicious! A wonderful red sauce covered a moist chicken breast, hinting the slightest taste of basil. All this was draped with a wonderful sprinkling of mozzarella cheese.
4. Noodles with butter
Basic, not much to say.
Drinks:
Two bottles of San Pellegrino Water
Tap Water
1 glass of Chardonnay $7.00
Dessert:
Tiramisu
We all split this order which arrived in a tall ice cream like cup from the old soda fountains. It was large and delicious and the white chocolate liqueur from Godiva put it over the top! Delicious cookies surrounded the tiramisu in the tall cup with whipped cream on top, we all dug deep down with our spoons and loved it. It was a creative and original twist on the usual way we have enjoyed Tiramisu in the past.
Our total bill without tip $107.00
