Lake Como (sort of) on the Greenwich waterfront

The Delamar is a 83 room boutique hotel. It's location is an "A" because of its waterfront location and its 2 block-plus walkability to Greenwich Avenue (the Main Street of this wealthy town).

The Italianesque atmosphere is prettier than the Hyatt but no pool, no spa and absolutely NO lobby life. A good choice for up-and-coming excecutives, Fortune 500 Chiefs, couples fleeing ther children and significant others. Also an excellent choice for gay couples with pets.

Unique Quality: The 9 suites are the most distinctive aspect of the property: all one-bedrooms and (most) facing the waterfront. The two Presidential Suites have a dining area and jacuzzi, each.

The single rooms are just that: single and most seem small. All single rooms have the same amenities: CD player, DVD player, high-speed internet access (for a fee) and firm, excellent beds. Be careful of rooms on the first floor that have cold bathroom floors and are permeated by neighboring smoking and pet-friendly rooms. The Deluxe Harbor rooms seem larger because of their water-view balconies and light so, hence, they are the nicest.

The Provencal restaurant l'escale is a destination in itself ; the food quality is superior to that of the mediocre Greenwich Hyatt's. Just ignore the "attitude-moderne" that permeates l'escale's staff (it is a separate business from the hotel). Room service ends too-early at 10 p.m. and there is no overnight menu.

Bizarre layout means that access to l'escale is via the 2nd floor (and down a flight of stairs) so handicapped accessibility is limited to outside or kitchen access.

On the hotel side, sincere, helpful and overworked staff is the Delamar's best asset.
